I am so proud of us (me and dh) and of Hayleigh-bug--
I asked our Priest (we are Catholic.....this info pertains to the post! ) if dd could make her First Communion in the spring. DH and I had been discussing and we thought she was ready. I called our Priest and he said that since she is Homeschooled (Catholic curriculum) and has religion every day, he said that would be fine. He went on to say that he totally supports homeschooling (how blessed are we?:D ) and he makes exceptions on making First Communion at a younger age for homeschoolers( the norm is 2nd or third grade--7/8 years old--dd is 6 and in the first grade!). When I spoke to the lady that over sees the Catechism program, she told me that she sees dd behave in Church and sees how well behave and reverent she is during Mass and she also thought dd was ready! Dh and I (mostly me cause we get to go shopping for a pretty white dress!LOL! Really, I am thrilled that she will be recieving First Communion!) are just so flattered that people notice her behavior (we try hard! LOL) in Church.....so....I'm off to surf the web for dresses! Yay!!
    Blessings,
    Shawna

I think the best thing to hear about your child is how well behaved they are. Afterall, isn't that what we all strive for? I am always getting comments on how well behaved my children are. I love it. Of course, then I am looked at as being too hard when they are disciplined. Can't people see that they wouldn't be so well behaved if they didn't fear my wrath? LOL. J/K. However, discipline and setting a high but not unreachable standard is why my kid behave. Anyway, I am happy for you and your family. Sounds like you have a great little girl!

CONGRATULATIONS on a job well done!!! The big thing is that she gets to see you play your religion out on a daily basis, and incorporate it into her studies. THAT makes a long-term difference in children!

That's great, Shawna! She is also setting a great example to others on her faith, her manners, and her attitude! When people at your church think if homeschooling, they'll picture Hayleigh--the Good, intelligent girl! :D

    Congratulations to your whole family!

Congratulations!!!!!! My boys made theirs in October. I was so nervous! If you need a veil, communion rosaries, etc., autom has a few really nice items.

Both of my boys will be taking their training for being altar servers starting later in the month. I am really excited about that too. It seems that once they receive their first communion, they grow in the church so much faster.

    Again, CONGRATS!

Thanks ladies!! Coming to this forum and reading and posting here is one of the reasons why we are sucessful in hsing. I just feel so BLESSED to be able to homeschool, and to have dh support and the ability to live off one income. I just sit in wonder at the blessing of homeschooling. For a long time I followed roads that I thought were my "path" and to find out my place was here at home, then all the "paths" did not seem to go anywhere anymore! I love to see the results in dd (especially when she "gets it" ) and to know that my daughter is in an environment where she can thrive, learn and feel secure is worth the world to me and dh!! We also love the fact that we can live out our faith on a day to day basis without fear of critisism and our faith is incorporated into just about every subjuct that we do---I just love that! I know you ladies feel the same..Sorry if this seems to ramble, but since last night it seems that I feel extra blessed and I just want to shout it from the rooftops!;) I know you ladies know what I mean!!:D
    Blessings,
    Shawna

I certainly do know what you mean, Shawna! Last night we were having our family worship before bed. We were all close and "in one accord". DH reached out to hold my hand, and dd snuggled up next to me---I just felt so blessed to have such a great husband and family, and, like you said, happy that we are able to live off one income, and I can be home with my children! I felt huge peace and just a very happy. contented feeling!!! :D And living out our faith in all we do, and that being okay, is very important also!!! The kids can grow strong in their faith without being teased or put down or told they're wrong. Then when the time comes when they're older and need to make a choice (or choices) of which direction they're going to head, they'll have stronger convictions, and will be better able to stand up for their beliefs!

That's special! Go ahead & BASK in the appreciation your family is receiving from people in your church. We'll soon be off to an afternoon of carolling with others in our small community--on hay bales on trailers, pulled by mules. :) Some of the people here affirm our decision to hs, & some don't; so this activity can be a mixed blessing. I like to please people & am sensitive to disapproval. I try not to be. I try to do what I believe is right & let people think what they choose to. How wonderful for you, Shawna, to get such good encouragement!

There were two teams yesterday--the mules & some big, beautiful Clydesdale horses. Baptists, Catholics, Methodists, Mennonites, & others singing together & holding onto eachother so as not to slide off the bales and then warming up over soup & hot chocolate was totally great!
