Does anyone else's local Christian Radio station turn ALL Chiristmas music for the WHOLE month?

My children and I fell in love with the pop Christian songs of this summer, via the local Christian station. Songs like "So Long Self", and "How great is our God?" and so on... We were new to church and it was a whole lifestyle change for us....

However, ever since Thanksgiving, the station has decided to run Christmas music ONLY until Christmas night.

    Sigh.

I know that HE is the reason for the season, but aren't the songs they play already praising him? This is wearing us out and kinda spoiling the "Spirit" of the holiday, if you will. I mean, no I did not belong to a church for 20 years, but in my younger days God was everywhere. And Christmas did not start til about a week before.

Heck, even just a couole of years ago stations did not play 24\ 7 Christmas music until christmas eve.

So, now we listen to other stuff and miss out on the stuff we were liking. I miss the day-today christian music. I miss the way it made me feel. I know this sounds weird to some folks but music really moves me.

Can't they at least wait until the last week before Christmas to play 24\7 Christmas tunes? I mean a MONTH of nothing but Christmas?

I can only stand so many renditions of O' Holy Night before I want to choke the radio! haha!

Ok, don't lynch me. But anyone can feel dried out by hearing silent night 15 times a day for a month, right?

    Peace!

I hear ya, jen. I love christmas music, and do listen to it alot (my cd's) but our local christian station does still play regular music, thankfully!

Are there any other christian radio stations in the Houston area? How about your own cd's? Do you have any? Maybe you could download some off the internet and make a cd for you and the kids! That does stink for you since you are so moved by music and have found such great music to listen to!

Good luck and "We wish you a merry christmas, we wish you a merry christmas, we wish you a merry......." :)

    Sorry....couldn't help myself!!!! LOL

I compare it to how you can't get away from A Christmas Story, when it gets closer to Christmas. I can't stand that movie, and it seems like every store has it blaring in their video department in the few days before Christmas.

Oh, Becky!!! I get the biggest kick out of A Christmas Story!!! But I think It's a Wonderful Life is the stupidest thing ever!!!

But back to the topic, ours has been playing Christmas Music 24/7 since about two weeks before Thanksgiving. Also, it really irritates me to have it play secular Christmas music. Now, I don't feel there's anything "wrong" with secular Christmas music, but feel that a Christian station that plays only Christian music all the rest of the year needs to continue with only Christian music during the Christmas season, too.

AND I HATE THAT STUPID CHRISTMAS SHOES SONG!!!

Our Christian station (K-LOVE) still plays regular music and only Christian Christmas music. We have a local pop station that plays all Christmas music from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

I'm not crazy about the Christmas Shoes song either, Jackie.

Oh, I love it, but not before Thanksgiving! I just don't consider "I WANNA HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR CHRISTMAS!!!" a legit Christmas song! I put on plenty of tapes and CD's!

Our Christian station used to do that too, I'd just skip that station the first two weeks and be immersed in the Christmas music for two weeks. The Station has since closed down though.

I downloaded a thing called BearShare, it is like that program napster, but you have o pay after the first month and most of the songs you can only hear on your computer, unless you buy the song.

I mention this because I do not have any Christian music cds. And in my humble opinion most christian music (That I have been exposed to) is pop, but not very moving, for me. Again, an opinion....

Anyway, I love pomp and circumstance, and I love astral music, like the artist Enya. Put that together and what do you have? Boys choirs, believe it or not! I stumbled upon this angelic / futuristic choir....

    I love it!

I found a cd that I plan to buy called "Angel Voices" by LIBERA". Just good stuff! There is one sang called "I am the Day" that is so moving!

    Here are some lyrics....

    I am the day

I am the day, soon to be born
I am the light before the morning

I am the night, that will be dawn
I am the end and the beginning

I am the alpha and omega
The night and day, the first and last

    Illuminosa, immortalis
    Sancta gloriosa
    Illuminosa, immortalis
    Sancta gloriosa
    In aeterna

I am the life, soon to begin
I am the new hope in the morning

I am the darkness, soon to be light
I am the rising and the falling

(Then it goes into this gorgeous crescendo of biblical proportions but you feel like the heavens have opened. It is so moving!)

I know it sounds weird, but to me, this is awesome Christmas music! The standards just are sooo tired.

Ok, here is one you may like...
It is the same kids singing a song called "Stay with me".
It is like someone took music from a dream, mixed it with a band of angels and a touch of the future and wraped it all up in light..... (ou need real player to hear this sample...)

    Here are the lyrics...
    Stay with Me
    You are everything I know
    Which ever way I go
    For ever stay with me

    Venite angeli
    Cantate domino
    Laudate

You see me through when ever I'm afraid
    However far away
    For ever comfort me

You're on my side whichever way I choose
    In everything I do

Ok, we put up our tree to this whole cd that we were able to download. It is sooo beautiful!

Ok, just thought I would share...

Jen, I think that would sound really neat. I'm sorry to say I'm in agreement with you about contemporary Christian music. I tend to lean toward "older" music...hymns, etc. I do like contemporary Christian IN MODERATION, and I resent that it's not possible for us to sing anything in our church on Sunday morning unless it's been playing for the last 6 months on the Christian station first. I also play Mountain Dulcimer, so I will lean toward Folk Music, too. I've got several tapes/CD's with more traditional instruments. I had on Peter. Paul and Mary's holiday CD on earlier today! Oh, I also like accapello music!

WEll, I have to say that I am very guilty of being completely flip-floppy on the issue of pop, verses classics, verses choural and so on, because I love them all.

My complaint really stems from our station playing only th pop songs or the pop singers versions of older tunes.

Tonight on PBS that had the Daniel O'Donnel with Songs of Praise. Now I do not know who this man is, but his show got up and sang many of the old classics. He started off with one of my favs, "Jesus is calling" (All sinners come home).

My Grandmother brought me up on old bluegrass gosphel and I just love to bake to that music!

But a minute later, I am flipping over to listen to Mercy Me and their contemporary songs. And yes, just a moment later I may flip over to listen to he choir music and so on.

I guess I wish our station and our church for that matter were more integrated with their music.

Everyone ignore me I am babbling.......
My husband took the twins to see he symphony that is playing at his theater and me and the girl are listening o this Libera album and I wish I could share it with you gals.

Hereis a link where you can see all of Libera's videos, which means you can hear the entire songs!

I just saw the video for I AM THE DAY and it is just not up to the quality of the song or lyrics. But you can hear the whole song, if you wish, plus the other songs.

HARPER VALLEY PTA!!! I supose the next thing you'll want is Me and Bobby McGee!!!

I looked at the libera site. I didn't like the video for the one song at all! But I love the sound and harmony of boys choirs!!! That's neat that those boys get the chance to do something like this!

    Nah!
Once I got away from my Hippy Mom, I wasn't really into the hipy music. Then again, I do like a cool drink of Metallica and Van Halen, with a John Denver and Carpenters chaser!

It's no big deal about seeing that video. I was just exploring some other music options on bearshare and thought these guys were soooo uplifting, that I had to share. No biggie...

    Hey there! I agree.
I have been listening to the album for about two days, and did not like the video.
It is cool that they are into this, though. Apparently they are huge in Japan.

    Speaking of music surprizes....
There are two commercials, here in Houston with the SAME dayng Christmas song used, only they have both change the lyrics tothe song to fit their "Widget". Sigh...

    HEY Question....
When you were a kid, did you ever take regular pop songs and change them into christian songs by changing the lyrics? Or am I the only little Jesus freak who did that?

My cousin and I used to run around, when we were about 8 singing stuff like, "If I can't have you, I don't want nobody, Jesus, If I can't have You OH OH Oh! oH!" (Bee Gees??)

    hahahahaha!

I laugh because growing up I did not know there were various genre of music. To me there was Country and everything else was lumped together. I grew up listening to Alabama, Air Supply, Journey, Styx, and others like Peabo Bryson, Aretha Franklin and other Motown singers. Remember the old K-tel records? I would still like to get a copy of Joni Eareckson's recording that I had. I may still have it in my albums if we still have them but I have the feeling they are no longer good.
