"I'm only 5'11", but I'm going to heaven and it makes me feel 10 feet tall!!!!"

That one??? For some strange reason, it was going through my head today, so I find it interesting your mentioning Joni Eareckson!

I would give anything to get a copy of Evie's "Come On, Ring Those Bells". That was my favorite Christmas album of all time! She did "One Small Child", which I fell in love with.

Jackie, I honesty don't remember any of the songs but I do remember how much I enjoyed the album. Christie Lane had several that I enjoyed also. I think she is the one that did "Footprints in the Sand". We had a group in High School that we called "A Brand New Touch". Other than our church I only remember performing at one other one but we had so much fun just getting together and singing.

When I was in college in Oklahoma, I attended church with a "local" friend of mine. I went in early to the Sunday Evening service, and heard their youth choir. I remember turning to Kathy, and telling her, "I'm going to love this church!!! They're as bad as my youth choir at home!!!"

We didn't have any type of choir. Our congregation wasn't all that large, maybe that's why. Our town's population at the time was about 5,000 and we had a fairly decent amount of churches for a town that small.

I hope we weren't bad!LOL!! If nothing else we enjoyed ourselves!

So did we (enjoy ourselves). I go to some churches now and it seems you have to have a degree in music to be able to get up in front of people. It's like a big performance. I'd rather have a little less professional group, but one that is enjoying praising the Lord.

I stream music from the internet because the sound system on my computer is better than the one that I had (it recently went into the garbage.) I have found one that does play some christmas and some praise songs. You maybe able to do that.

We attended one church (briefly) where you actually had to audition to sing in the choir. My dh has a beautiful voice (started a degree in music, but switched before graduation, and has actually been a Min. of Music before God closed that door), and was told what song he had to sing for special music. He refused to sing, because he felt like he should be allowed to sing the song that God laid on his heart. They were also not allowed to use tracks to sing. It had to be piano music. We called the whole service "high church". Reminded us of the Pharisees!

There is nothing better than being in a worship service, and feeling like you are surrounded by people truly worshipping!

BTW, he tells me that he could have sung in one of those boys' choirs as a child. He sang soprano until his voice changed.

Jackie, That song is: "I'm only FOUR foot eleven, but I'm goin' to Heaven..." :) 5 ft. 11 is pretty tall for a girl! :) We know a 10-year old girl that sang that song. It was so cute, and she had an amazing voice!

I loved that Evie song too! Wonder if it's available online somewhere???

I wonder if I still have that recording of the little girl singing that song? If so, maybe I can get it into a form to send to you Jackie! It's just a cute rendition! AND, get this, she sang it with a group that was doing a concert and there were probably at least 2000 people there!

I like use the "make your own radio station" thingy at http://launchcast.yahoo.com It has the very nice "never play this song again" button for when something is overplayed or just bad.

YEP! So does another local mixed music radio station...the only two I listen regularly to as well! I personally love the Christmas music and it's the only thing I listen to after Thanksgiving, but I did notice that on Sunday mornings the local Christian station plays the contemporary music as well (up until noon, I think), so that was a nice surprise.:D

Girl I know what you mean and the girls and I feel the same way. I miss my praise and worship music!!!!! I am assuming we both listen to KSBJ since we live in the same area.

Here is something else I thought about. They are a Christian station right? Okay so all of a sudden it's Christmas music all the time which includes secular Christmas music. Now don't get me wrong I love all Christmas music I am just trying to justify being mad at the station for doing this to us.

I would rather have them continue the music they normally play with some Christmas music thrown in there to. 99.1 is also playing all Christmas music and there is only so much of that a sane person can take before loosing it.

The only thing I can think of is that there are many Christians who celebrate the other parts of the holiday as well. At least that's the only thing I can come up with, and I suppose it makes sense. We do the other things as well.

Tiffany, that's EXACTLY my point!!! Like you, I'm fine with most secular Christmas music. But if a station says it's a Christian station and won't play secular music any other time of the year, why does it compromise its principles at Christmas? That should be the time the really need to make a difference!

I don't think it's compromising it's principles, I just think they realize there are many Christians that celebrate other parts of the season. They are still songs with a positive message at least. I don't see what's wrong with playing We Wish You A Merry Christmas when it's still a positive message that it sends, IMHO.

Jen, I agree with you that there's nothing wrong with Christmas songs that are secular. I enjoy them myself. But there are also good secular songs that are NOT Christmas songs. Christian stations won't play them, regardless of how "good" they might be, or how "positive" the song's message. But at Christmas, that policy is thrown out the window. And some of the songs I hear are not what *I* would consider "positve"...such as "I want a hippopontamus for Christmas' (I HATE that song!!!) and something about "last Christmas, I gave you my heart, Very first thing you tore it apart. This year, instead of the tears, I'll give it somebody special" (Or something like that....).
