Or, Does Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer need to be "Redone"? We watched, on CBS tonight the 1964 version with Burl Ives. Although it is a classic, there are things in it which are just simply anoying and may benifit from being updated. Take for example the noise made when Rudolph's nose lights up. My kids were running for cover for the ears because it was sucha peircing horrid sound. Also, the pacing of the show is sooo slooowww... The side story of the Miss-Fit Toys was off-puting to my critters, who said that this whole part of the story was "Enough already!" haha! Ok, light-hearted discussion. Just curious if this is too much of a classic for remakes (Like "It's a Wonderful Life") or could this use an update? Thanks, just chattin'.....
I think when this was made, they didn't have so many other wonderful things to grab attention---such as Nintendo, X-Box etc. etc. Then, it was probably pretty exciting to watch! Now, with us being used to much more fast-paced action, it almost seems boring! I don't know whether a re-make would be any better. Oh sure, they'd highly improve some stuff, but then they'd have to add to it, and they'd take away the specialness! You KWIM? That's just my opinion though...
OOoh! Yea, you're right. Two side of the blade, eh? Maybe they would have Bow Wow on lead vocals! hahaha! (Just kidding! I was thinking of an earlier post and it just popped out! haha)
Okay, this made me laugh so hard. I have a visual of Bow Wow rapping Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer. Hmm! I wonder if Bow Wow's ears are ringing??!!
I don't think I would like it if it were redone. Although we almost never watch tv, it's one of the shows I do watch every year. I don't think it's boring, it's cute. I vote for keep it the way it is!
only my DD watched it last night, because it was "family" movie night and Donald wanted to watch superman....I was trying my best to hear the roudolf movie in the kitchen from the living room.
My dd10 had a friend spend the nigth and they watched and LOVED both Rudolph and Frosty with my husband and I. My 3 year old could have cared less. I love the old specials because they are reminders of my childhood and I wouldn't like it redone. However, I think dd3 wasn't interested because of the animation. She is used to todays technology and so she has never seen a cartoon like that before. To her it was boring. By the way - my husband and I both watch every single special like that we can - just reliving the good times I guess.
"you can't please everybody"...if i was asked, i would like to see a remake of it...it ma have been enjoable to some, and although i liked it as it is, it would nice to see a version made of it that would fit my time...you know, just for comparison and variety's sake...
I LOVE the classic! NO redo!! There is an updated "sequel" to Rudolph using today's animation called "Island of the Misfit Toys" and I can't stand it! DD8 has to watch it when I'm in my home office working or something. Speaking of Christmas specials, we watched "Holidaze" and the live action "Grinch" w/ Jim Carrey last night and I did NOT like either one of them. SO glad we never bought them. We have a whole boxful of Christmas videos and DVD's that we put away for the whole year and only bring out @ Christmas.
SACRILIDGE!!! Out with the infidel!!! JUST KIDDING!!! Nope, love the 1964 version. And if anyone tries to change "It's a Wonderful Life" I might just have to go on a murderous rampage! (LOL, TOTALLY KIDDING!). I love the classics, just the way they are, classic! Earpiercing screech and all. Just my .02!
Which infidel are we talking about? LOL! Though I must admit that Mathew Broderick did pretty good as Harold Hill int he remake of the Music Man.
Ok everyone. Don't lynch me! hahahahha! I did watch "Miracle on 34th Street", last night. And for the record, I ADORE the original! (But the remake was nice, too.)
I haven't seen the new one yet (of Miracle on 34th Street). It was on the other day, and I didn't catch all of it. I want to see it b/c I adore Mara Wilson (from Mrs. Doubtfire, she's just so cute!).
I watched Rudolph about 25 times getting ready for our Christmas float!! I found Santa awful in not accepting Rudolph. Like it's his fault his nose is red! I love all the movies and will always watch them, but me and the dchildren noticed all the pessimistic(sp.?) people! When researching I found a website that said the most asked question was "What is wrong with the doll?" on the Island. His answer..."her problem is more psychological than physical". Hilarious and creative! Anyway...jmho. I never really noticed before how pessimistic.
I'm in agreement with the comments on Miracle. The new one is OK, BUT..... I really like the way they acquit Santa on the original. The new one the ending is really weak!
Oh I agree about Miracle Jackie. I borrowed the remake from the library last week because they didn't have the original. It was okay but not near as good as the original. When Santa was aquitted in the remake I was saying "Okay that is NOT how it goes!" Now I have to go to Blockbuster and see if they have the original.
I may be sentimental but I like all the old ones! My kids even like them. I think it would be like remaking Wizard of Oz. Although, I did wonder what that would be like...hmmm....maybe...
