My toaster just gave out. This is the second toaster in a few years. I am thinking of buying a toaster oven instead but i do not know if it toasts the same as a toaster. Any advice? Patty
our toaster went out a few weeks ago, we just got a new toaster because the kids could make stuff them selves, toast, poptarts, toasterstrudle, etc... I think you can make more things in a toaster oven, like put cheese on a bagle (like a bagle pizza) and other stuff, but I would not trust my kids with it.
Also, if you can, look for a new toaster where the lever will go up further to extend the toast up higher for little hands to grab it better with out having to reach in. Our new toaster does not do this, I miss that about the old one.
Ours has that little lever, Amy! It's great!!! Though we still use these little bamboo tongs to help!
Okay, this is coming from a woman who LOVES her toaster oven. Had the same one for 11 1/2 years. BUT I use it for everything but toast! Our last toaster was a dud from Walmart we paid 7 bucks for. Died. Button never worked, piece of junkaroonie. Well, i joined freecycle and someone was giving away a 4 slice toaster. I got it, free. it was brand new and it is a CHAMP. I love this toaster. So I'm an advocate for both. (btw...IF you do get a toaster oven....get a small bar pan from Pampered Chef, they fit right inside and are AWESOME. i use mine ALL the time!!!)
We have a regular toaster....but I would LOVE a toaster oven. My sister has one and every time I go visit her, I love to use it. I just don't really have enough counter space for one.
Leslie, me either. I just don't know what all you can cook in the toaster oven and with 4 kids can you make enough of stuff for all of them at one time??
Regular toaster here but would also love a toaster oven..sometimes, to make things like pizza rolls quick.
Aball - cooking for 4 might be tight. i can cook for three in it...or for just me when it's my turn to eat (it happens occasionally) When we lived in Phoenix, I used it a lot! It beat firing up the oven for sure. We have the Oster oversized one that holds 4 full slices of bread. I've made a 2 lb salmon filet in it for dinner before. Use it all the time for making nuggets. Toasted cheese. All sorts of stuff. I do not use it for toast though. It's not the same, the top is always not done enough and the bottom is over done...I've never been able to get it right in a toaster oven.
We use it for toast sometimes, but our toaster oven takes a lot longer to toast the bread than the toaster, and , as Krista says, it's not evenly toasted. So we have both: A four-slice wide slot toaster and a cheap toaster oven. We use the toaster oven for open face sandwich things to melt the cheese, and all sorts of other things. It really does come in handy if you can have both! We have two teenage boys that eat lots of waffles or toast for breakfast---so they can be making stuff at the same time if they use both!
At Wal-mart yesterday I saw a toaster/toaster oven combo. It has slots in the top for bread and a door on front for other toasting (like mini pizzas).
