CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I'd be in shock too. But what a blessing!!!! I wish I could have another baby (or two or three). I have no advice on this one - just take care of yourself.
Thanks all for the well wishes. I am feeling better. I think the shock is wearing off. We are making plans and that helps with the uncertainty too. I know I will love them. Heck part of my worry is something will happen to them. I can't imagine going through that. I let work know this morning and after this weekend they are supposed to lighten up my load. Yay!
Leslie, Several years ago if a man went in for a vasectomy around here, the doctor would require you to come for some sessions to make sure you really wanted to do that if you were under a certain age. I don't remember how old, but Freddy was under that age. He really didn't want to go in to talk about our decision so when he went to see the doctor we took Matthew who was 4 and the girls who are twins and were 3 months old. The doctor looked at all the kids and never mentioned coming back to talk. He just scheduled the surgery. By the way, it didn't work and Freddy had to go have it done a second time. Luckily we had followed all the precautions and had no surprises. Another couple at our church didn't listen and ended up with three children instead of two because his surgery didn't work either.
Aurie, Having twins is fun in itself but the laughs you will have over the things people will ask or say to you are the best. One lady told me she had identical twins too. I said boys or girls? She said one boy and one girl. Hmmm? Identical?! A man told me once that if I told him one twin's name he could quess the other one's name. I said Maggie. He quessed for a while and finally gave up. I said the other baby is Katie. He got all upset and told me that those names didn't go together at all. I beg to differ. They have gone together nicely for almost 30 years now. One thing that always strikes me funny is when people say two twins. Like " oh look at the two twins!" I always think how many kids could there be in a set of twins? I wish I had written down all the funny things that have happened. Our next door neighbor's little girl played with our girls all the time. One year for her birthday she asked her parents to get her a twin for her present. She was so upset that they couldn't do that. I am just so excited for you!!!
Congratulations!! I was just telling my dd12 last night how great it would be if she had a twin just like her. I am so happy for you. Michelle
Congrats and Wow!! Relax, take a breath and write on a black board 20 times, " I can and will accept help as needed" Get used to not concentrating, you never will again. Just kidding, rest, then enjoy the news. Your students will be fine with more break. Just think, there will always be a huge number of easy science fair experiments, with built in control. My dh wanted us to have twins so bad. I was able to disappoint him both times. His mother was a twin an he thought it would be way cool for us to have twins also. Twins are different altogether from singletons. My MIL's (note the plural see below) lived to be 89 and 91. For many of the last years they were alive we took them to Twinsburg Ohio to the Twins Days festival. They had traveled all over the world for decades and these trips were some of their favorites. The entire 2 days are all about twins, in a small town, family freindly setting that is so low key that Amish and Mennonites attend. One of the highlights is the parade with like 2 or 3 thousand sets of twins, trips and quads in it. The costumes are so clever, I saw folks dressed up like doublemint gum, picture envelopes that said double prints. I made our twins Double Jeapardy outfits with their names in boxes on the front and a question on the back, and they took gold medals. They were thrilled and even did their own PR work back home to get in the papers and magazines as the Oldest City's Oldest Twins. I married a man older than me who was a late (quite) in life only child to his parents. When we married I was 19 and his mother was 72. His father died the year before at 87 and dh's aunt was also a widow. I had twin 72 year old MILS with nothing to do other than intrude on our life. It was interesting the first couple of years.
One of our foster daughters best friends has two sets of twins and I predicted them both times. She says it is my "fault" because she stayed at our house so much when our twins were little. Hey! I didn't tell her to drink the water.
What great news! Easy to say since it's not me, huh? Congratulations! Things will be double the fun for you!
Patty, I'm a twin (surprise at birth ). Mr dr told me that all women have the same chance of having identical twins. This is because the egg splits, thus being random. Fraternal twins, where there are 2 separate eggs, (which is what I am) run in the woman's side of the family. Of course, fertility treatments have greatly changed the rate of mulitples. With my 4th, the dr suspected twins early on, but an ultrasound proved him wrong. I have to say I was a little relieved! Aurie, congratulations and remember that God never gives us more than we can handle. Your older 2 should be able to help you lots! Can't remember who said it, but "two twins" ....that irks me, too. I also HATED being refered to as "the twins" or "one of the twins". We have names, people!
Congratulations Aurie, double blessed but as eaqually stressed. I hope the day got easier for you and it has begun to sink in.
We know a lady (Used to be our music teacher) that had 3 kids, then they wanted one more. So when they got pregnant, they were excited. Imagine their surprise when they were told they were having---TRIPLETTS! It was all natural, just a fluke somehow. The tripletts were two boys and a girl, and NO, they were and are NOT identical!!!
My MIL is a triplet. Two girls (identical) and a boy. The baby was to be their 5th child, but they got 5, 6, & 7. The youngest of the others was still in diapers, too. I can't even imagine. My dh says that his great-g'mom helped out a lot.
