As many of you know, I have been doing the virtual academy with my boys this year. We are in the K12 curriculum. Not having fun with it, as I wrote in another thread. Well, I had to call the school board today and mentioned the issues I had with the curriculum. One of these being the lack of time for religious education.

It was strongly suggested that I take the religious exemption. Not in a bad way, the head of education is a very nice man and is behind homeschooling. He just happens to believe in public education as well.

It was even suggested when to do this. Either by the end of Jan or else right after the SoLs in May.

Also, I will NOT have to pay for the curriculum used.. YAYYYYY!!! That was the main reason I stayed so long. I was so scared of the cost of the K12 curriculum if we stopped attending. So, although it will be a little difficult once approved, as I have to sort of "freelance" the rest of this year until we can get new curriculum (tax time, hopefully), this will be okay.

I just never figured that I would be given the recommendation to have my family excused from compulsory attendance. Talk about a shock!

How woncderful!!! If you have any questions about "freelancing", many of us have done/are doing that one way or another and are willing to answer any specific questions you have. A few years back, a member named Rae had a rather extensive list of web sites for various subjects. It's posted somewhere on this site. You might want to look through it, though it is VERY long!

Oh, when I first read your subject, I thought you had gotten into that "water' and were pregnant!!!

Awesome news! Glad we are using K12 with the homeschool option rather then through the public school. We haven't been able to log on today. So we spent the day at the library and working on the upcoming science fair. If we had mandatory attendence, we would be screwed ;) Keep us updated and like the other ladies said, they can help you with the freelancing.

I know I will miss some of the K12, but with the virtual academy it is more structred than ps at times.

I have done freelancing before, as this was my first year with a curriculum. I will gladly check out those links though. Can never have too many places to look for information and lessons.

I am water-proof and have been for about 10 years, unfortunately. One more would have been nice, but I was blessed with four, so can't complain.

I am going to push the boys to do all they can in certain areas in order that we get the most out of the curriculum. Dh and I have not yeat determined when we are going to do the switch, now next month, or after this school year. I am thinking the sooner the better, dh is mulling it over. either way, we have at least a month.
