I work at/from home so I can stay home with the kids. This has its plusses and minuses of course. Sometimes I think it would be easier and take less time to work weekends for someone else. I have been pretty burnt out with what I do of late and am considering either restructuring my current business or starting another one. I do computer repair, consulting and other computer related tasks, including SOHO networking, training, and a bit of website design and support. I was wondering if others work at home or from home and if so what they do. Perhaps some inspiration will allow me to come up with a new direction to take.
I sell things on eBay for people. We've been doing that since last June and it is (mostly) fun! It does take up a lot of time in between things - and a lot of space! My dining room looks like a warehouse when we have a lot of merchandise here. We're sort of between clients right now and have been praying for the next one(s) to come along. We don't make a lot of money at it, but it has helped enough that I didn't have to get a part time job at night to pay bills this year. I do a little computer consulting for friends, but not for money at this point. I've considered it, but would have to wait until the bunnies are a little older. My husband does do repair/consulting/recovery on people's computers on the side, and that helps, too. What is SOHO networking?
My husband owns his own business and I take care of all the paper work - invoicing, billing, filing and such. I also have an RV and boat storage company about to open and I will be running that from home as well.
I run my daycare, but after this school year I wont be doing it anymore. I just want to be with MY kids, especially having a baby on the way. We still do not know about the schooling situation with our son. He will start K next year. Even if he goes to school, I am done raising other people's kids. It's too much craziness when you are dealing with other people are their children, and in my home nonetheless. Right now I am looking into working a part time job in the evening after hubby gets home. It will still allow me to bring in the income we need and be a stay at home mom.
I've tutored high school math out of my home for the past 8 years. It was a good extra income (mostly grocery money) and it's great to determine how much or little one wants to work. However, I'm quitting after this year since my own kids have so many activities they'd like to do in the afternoons. I'm tired of telling them no. Carol
I don't but would love to if I could find something legit (not MLM, pyramids)- at least until we are out of debt. We are trying (to be debt-free), but it's slow-going. If I had an income, it would go straight to paying off debt. Will the student loans ever end?
Yes Pam, they will! We finally paid mine off! I went to a private Christian college, so I had some debt to pay off! DH went to a state college so he was debt free when he was done, so we only had mine. It still took awhile. Once we got that paid off we got a car and got that paid off, then got a van and got that paid off. So now we're working on our mortgage!
I went to a small (EXPENSIVE) Christian school, too. My student loan was small. I had several scholarships to help, but my dh ---OVER $30,000!!! (same school-we met there). Mine is paid of, but his....someday!
My story is similar. Me=$5,000. Husband=$30,000. We'd be done by now if he didn't have so much in student loans. It's almost like our second mortgage since we are on the forever payment plan.
I would love to work from home. I Have some ideas, but most would mean having to find someone to help take care of the boys, and that is something I do not want to do. I too want something legitimate. No pryamids or independent consultants (Discovery Toys, Candlelite, Mary Kay, etc..)
I work outside of home but only part time, being a single mom I have to work. I enjoy it and it gives me the time and $ we need for our family. I love HSing Madison but I require being outside of the house too. I too have student loan debt and it sucks! LOL one day I will be able to pay it all off and not worry about it.
I *was* working from home and loved it. My husband would take the kids in the morning and I would pick them up as soon as school was over. I was around to make sure they did homework. Now that's all gone by the wayside. I got put on a new contract that doesn't permit working at home. I want my old job back.
I sell Longaberger, although I haven't sold anything in a long time. It hasn't worked out the way I planned. It can bring in some nice income if you're good at it.
i used to sell tupperware and when i got parties it was great but the parties were too far and few between.
Hi ladies, I also work from home. I am a consultant with Usborne Books. I've done other things here and there, but Usborne will always be my main thing. When looking for at-home work, just remember a few things - 1) The only time you should have to pay money to work at home, is if you are joining a home-party plan type company. Like Usborne or Tupperware, etc. The money is for a demo. kit & supplies. If a company wants just a "fee" to start working, stay away. 2) Find something that you are passionate about. Say you wanted to join a Direct Sale/home-party plan company. Someone tells you about a scrapbooking opportunity, but you have no clue about scrapbooking & no interest in it. You'd have a harder time selling this type of product, than a scrapbooking enthusiast would. Best wishes to those wanting to work from home! Hope you find somethign you enjoy.
I am developing an art studio & have been to one "show." Getting the right frames & finding the right places to market is a challenge. Right now I have work to do on that. It's more of a hobby at this point than an actual job, although I hope it can expand.
I am just starting to work from home using the computer (web-based business). It is a small little web-shop but maybe in time it will pay for itself and a little more. I am still in process of getting the site built, etc. But this won't be too hard to manage. Before we moved, I had a small salon in my home. It was ok but I found that it took away from the homeschooling tiime as people would come and linger which totally messed up our schedule.
VERY COOL, Prairie Home! What sort of art is your specialty? Have a web site? Any pictures of your work? Would LOVE to see it! Bev
