Does anyone here have experience with mathusee?? Is it worth the money?? I will be homeschooling 3 kids. Two of them struggle with math and need a more "hands on" approach to learning. My 1st grader is struggling just to learn addition.

I used it with my son in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade. We have now switched to abeka only because it comes in the kit and I didn't want to purchase another. Mathusee was perfect for him at that age and I wouldn't have used any other. He is a very energetic boy and being able to do this hands on was exactly what he needed. The teacher also has a great approach to learning. I can really see how the methods that were used in it have helped him in understanding the abeka math quicker and with less difficulty than others. I did use the older version that didn't have all the workbooks but it still worked fine. My sister-n-law uses it for her 1st grader and loves it. Mathusee has a website that you can sample and also do math drills online. Hope that helps.

Yes I use math u see with my dd10 for 5th grade. We like it a lot. She really had a tough time with math in ps so we backed up a level to make sure she really "gets" it this time. It works great for us an dI love the fact that their website has a sort of placement test for you to print out and let your child take so you know exactly which program to buy.

It is pricey I know. I am about to have to buy the next level so that my dd10 can be finished with that by the end of summer and by September I'll have to buy yet another level. Then she will be on what I consider to be grade level in math. I'm not looking forward to spending the money but this program has really worked for dd.

I have also used this and LOVE it, so does my daughter. I have used both the newer version and the past ones and I like them both, I actually like the past ones for the younger grades because you can use it for 2 years instead of one if you would like, which we did because she did better that way. I really wanted to make sure she had it before moving on. I may have the younger edition I could sell you for a good price I will look. If not I saw one on a board for 25.00. It is the older one with a video though not DVD if that makes a difference. I would say yes it is worth every penny...

I'm using it with Vicki now. I really like it. She loves the hands on approach. That is the way she learns.

I don't perceive MUS as being a good choice as a core curriculum, it seems more geared towards kids who tried, got frustrated and failed at the basics. It uses a lot of graphical or analogy concepts (thus the name) which probably work well with kids who are more right-brained. None of my kids have had trouble picking up the basics on the first try (so far, knock on wood) so I have not seen any return in my investment.

I don't have any to sell either. I have let my kids write in their books and I also like to refer back every now and then. As I said it was excellent for my son. My daughter prefers abeka. She has tried several other math programs and likes this the best. Saxon was among them and it was in her words "boring". She enjoys more workbook material and my son enjoyed hands on (mathusee). It's just a matter of how your child learns. Good Luck!

I have always used the Abeka Math until this year. I found going from Abeka to Math U See has not helped my dgs. He does not need the hands on approach. So, I am wanting to change. I think if you have always used this and/or it is working for your child, great. I have a friend that uses it with her children and it works real well. I do have the fractions and decimals books and cd's that I might have for sale. I have a good friend of mine that is thinking about hs her 4th grader next year and might want them. If you can wait until June, she should know by then. I hope this makes sense.

I have a friend that has been using math-u-see with her kids. She may be ready to sell some stuff. I'll ask her and see.

I am about to purchase it. Have you looked at their demo dvd? Maybe that will help you decide. Ds watched the demo with me and he is so excited to start it!

I just got the demo yesterday and it looks really neat. I'm excited about it. Once we get all the manipulatives it won't be so bad price wise but starting out always seems to cost so much. I looked on ebay but it isn't much cheaper than getting a new set especially after shipping.

    Angela,
Before you but that manipulative kit, check out what's in it. There are so many things that you can substitute or make yourself. The only thing I bought was linking cubes and pattern blocks. I bought both from Rainbow Resource fairly cheap. I use Saxon, but the manipulative kits are similar.

    Math U See

We just received our demo dvd today and immediately popped it in the dvd player. I let my 2nd and 3rd graders watch it with me. They are currently in public school and do Saxon Math. I asked my daughter if they had done any division in math yet. She said that they had, but she didn't "get it." She said that she had never answered a division problem right. After watching the demo, she said "Now I get it!" I wrote down several division problems and she answered every single one of them correctly. She was so excited and said that she would rather use Math U See than Saxon Math. I am completely sold on this program and will definitely use it next year when we homeschool!

Isn't wonderful when the light bulb finally goes off? That is why there are so many choices. Each child learns differently.
