Are you doing Valentines, Black history, Presidents Day, and so on? If so, what are you planning to do? (Groundhog day is over, obviously...) What are you doing with your elementary, middle grade and high school children with these subjects? My kides are kindergarten and 1st grade; we are going to cut out about a thousand red construction paper hearts, we plan to do something with them. We plan to stick thm all over the room, and may put current school study topic questions on one side and the answer on the other, just for fun. I want to get the kids writing more, and creatively thinking more, so we may study poems of love and other things. Maybe use a heart shape with lines to write an original poem and hang on the wall.... No! We'll take a heart shape, write a poem and hang the heart shape from a clothes hanger mobile with other love themed shapes! Yea! And decorate it with glitter and stuff.... cool! (Yes, I am thinking out-loud! hahaha!) I want to teach them that although two presidents' birthdays are in February, we actually just mush them all together and call the holiday "Presidents Day" because they irthdays are irrelivent. It is their actions that made them worth remembering and worth studying. But how to do that with 6 year olds..... They can already spot Abe Linoln and George Washington in the typical settings and pictures..... I'll have to think on that one... (Suggestions welcome) What do you have planned for March? So what do you have planned?
we are going to museum and see things. Making heart shape cookies for Valentine day. Getting out the choc. fountain and do some things in choc. other then that not much.
and I love this site, its links to a bunch of other sites, but they are all grouped by catigory. http://sherryskindergarten.homestead.com/
The BIGGEST plan I have is to take my 10YO away for a night to explain the "facts of life" to her! That will be in three weeks!
Ugh! We did ours in "installments". I only went as far as she wanted with info. We have now "gone all the way". We are not doing a whole lot. We'll do our normal Valentine's day dinner and baking of cookies for dad. But other than that, not much.
Dh loves homemade manicotti with garlic bread. So we do that, then I make sugar cookies with icing and sprinkles. We decorate the table with whatever the kids make and we eat by candlelight. It's fun. Oh....and I forgot about President's day. We will do something (not sure what) for that this month.
Make red jello in a heart shape dish or pan. Red tomato soup. Decorate sugar cookies with red frosting. Meat loaf with red catsup on top. Strawberry flavor milk
hescollin, I like your ideas about the red dinner. I did get some things today for the children for valentines day. We will probably decorate the house. For presidents day, not sure. We have 2 other holidays in this month we are going to celebrate. Dgs birthday and one of the boys birthday. Dgs and him are only 3 HOURS different in age. We plan on a big day for them.
Jackie, I am so not looking forward to the TALK! My mother never gave me the "talk" so that is why I am a bit lost for words. lol. I did however, buy her the book by AMerican Girl. lol. We are doing V-Day crafts and fun stuff like that. I have junior church on Sunday, so that too will be themed with love. President's day: they will have some fun things to do but reports will be due also.
Not sure if we'll do anything special for Valentines (other than making one for daddy or something). For my oldest, I plan on having her read the Addie Series from American Girl. I think it delves into some important subjects that she's ready for (she's 7, but acts like 16 LOL ) I may do something like puzzles or games for the presidents day arena....not sure yet.
I think I am just going to have the girls make cards for their daddy and maybe a couple of their friends for Valentine's Day. That's pretty much it.
We have a Vday party planned on the Sunday before. We will talk about what a president is and some of the important/memorable ones through the month. I need to remember that for tommorow (much easier looking up library books at home the night before than trying to do it with four kids at the library). No real big plans though, this is our third week hs'ing and we're still figuring stuff out and taking it day by day
I just found a flag jello mold in my cupboard. I had forgotten all about it! It was in a deep dark part of my cupboard that few venture into....the holiday section. lol. I just may use it this President's Day. My kids love jello.
