Hi, my name is Summer. I'm from Arkansas. I graduated from homeschooling in 2003 and now I'm a senior in college majoring in Music Education. (I have to student teach in ps to complete my major!) I loved homeschooling and plan to hs when I have children. My husband went to ps but he is excited about homeschooling. I decided to look up some homeschool groups for adults because I felt I was getting too old for the student homeschool forums... Any questions? Please ask. I would love to get to know everyone!

Hi Summer, Were you always homeschooled? I am homeschooling my two youngest children who are both girls. One is in 8th and one in 3rd grade. This is our first year homeschooling. I love it so much. Did you ever feel like you missed out on things? Were you in a homeschool group? I am sure I will have more questions. Thanks for the chance to ask. Welcome, Beth in NC

Hi Summer, welcome, my name is Kris from Texas as of right now, not for long. I hs my two dd's who are 14 and 12 and they been hs for 5 years. I have a couple of question for you? Did you have a transcript to get into college? If you did how did you keep it? Did you get a diploma if so how did you get that? Sorry for all the question but I have tons.

Yes, Beth, I was always homeschooled. No, I never felt like I missed out. I felt very blessed that my parents cared enough about me to teach me themselves. The kids in ps always told me they wished they were homeschooled too, so I never felt bad about homeschooling. We were in a homeschool group in a town about half an hour from us (there wasn't a group in our town). We stopped going when I was about 8 because we were just too busy. Later when I was about 16 we started playing basketball and soccer with the homeschoolers in a different town.
About the trascript, I made my own transcript on our home computer. The colleges I applied for had no problem with it. I just remembered all the courses(books) I had completed and put them on my transcript. I could have gotten a diploma, since in Arkansas we now have a homeschool graduation! Our homeschoolers have had their diplomas signed by Governor Huckabee! But I decided not to be in the graduation because I thought it cost too much, lol. I didn't need a diploma to get into college. Here in Arkansas, colleges only care about your ACT score and your transcript. Questions are welcome!

    Hi Summer, WELCOME!

I've been homeschooling my 3: ds15, ds13 and dd9 for 9 years now, and I wouldn't want it any other way! Neither would my kids, at least at this point.

Did you take the SAT? My oldest just took the PSAT in October, and dh feels it is important for him to take the SAT also. We have a book that he's done some studying from for the SAT.

Do you play a specific instrument? Did you know what you wanted to be/do when you headed to college?

I'm glad you had such a great homeschooling experience, and that you plan to homeschool your children! I'm convinced that's the best way to go if the parents possibly can!

    Hi Deena,
No, I didn't take the SAT just because it isn't required to get into colleges in Arkansas. I had some homeschooled friends who took the SAT because they were interested in applying to schools outside of Arkansas. (I didn't want to go that far away from home!) I think the SAT is more important than the ACT in a lot of states, I don't know exactly which ones.
I play the piano. When I started college, I had no idea what I wanted to major in. It took me two semesters to decide. I'm a little behind now because I didn't get started in the music program as a freshman (plus I transfered colleges when I got married), but I'm really happy with my major right now :)
I really like this forum so far! Everyone seems so nice :) I know this will be very helpful to me when I start having kids of my own - which, who knows when that will be -only God :). I'm using a natural method - which I love, because, although I don't think it's time for me to have children while I'm still in college, it feels good just knowing that I could if I wanted (or if God wanted) me to :)

My ds15 plays piano also. He plays so well, but at this point anyway, he's not interested in teaching music or history (another fave of his!) when he's done. So I'm not sure what he'll end up with. He's thinking computers, so possibly....

He does play for church and different things, so he is using the talent that God gave him! :D

Hi, welcome to this forum. Thank you for answering all of the questions. They have been very helpful. I have a dd12 and ds10 who both have been hs since kindergarten. Do you recommend and hs sites for my dd where she could chat w/ other hsers? I'm very protective so we haven't done much of that. Thanks and good luck with the next phase of life of being taught to teacher!:D

Yes, In many states, the SAT is much more important than the ACT. I would take both is money is not a problem.

Wow, I am so glad you joined us! You have answered a lot of questions. I am in Texas...wonder if we have any kind of homeschool highschool graduation. I love that idea!
My dd is in Kindergarten so I am glad to hear of a young lady like yourself who was hs'ed her whole life with no regrets. Gives a mom like me some confidence! LOL
It doesn't matter that you don't have kids yet, I would love to know your opinion on a lot of the topics that get started here. WELCOME!!
