Do any of you have your own homeschool website?

I have been thinking about setting up a website for our homeschool where I can post information for grandparents, other family and friends, etc. I'd like to have it so that the grandparents can check out photos and information about the things we are working on. I also think it would be nice to be able to refer others when the inevitable "what do you do all day?" comes up.

I think this could be good advertising for the positives of homeschooling. Do any of you do this? Do you use a free site? Is it difficult to maintain? I'd like to see how it's going to work before I start passing out the address to family and friends.

    Thanks!

Although I have owned my own domain for about 8 years, I have used it for soooo many reasons and changed the point of my website.

Today's Point of my website (Yes, tomorrow it may change) is a personal page.

However, I plan to highlight the facinatingly entertaining homeschooling FLickr photos (Which have Massive creativity spark points!) And the incredibly fun YouTube (And other brand) homeschooling and educational video clips found all over...

You will see that some of the text is filler and NONE of the links work, because what you see is an idea I am working on for my design. I've just been waaaay too busy, lately...

I would love to have one, but I am so computer dumb I wouldn't even know which end to start or begin. I would be so lost. Wish I could, but can't teach old dogs new tricks. LOL

We do an information site for homeschoolers. We are sloooowly working on it. It gets worked on more than we get paid for working on it. ;)

It depends on what knowledge you have. Several internet providers offer some free webspace, like Cox, Verizon, etc... You'd need something to design the site in and then an FTP to upload it. Not too difficult.

We don't post about our day to day homeschool stuff. I just don't have time. If anyone wants to know they can ask. lol

If you want your site to be primarily homeschooling "stuff", you might check out www.homeschoolblogger.com~ it's free, and hosted by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
That's where I have my blog.

Thanks everyone. I will have to start experimenting I guess. Heidi, I checked your blog out, and it's great. Your children are beautiful. We also have one adopted and one homegrown. They are such the little opposites. We get a lot of funny looks from people who look from kid to kid to me and my husband, and you can see the wheels turning as they try doing the math. Juan Carlos came home at 27 months old after a horrible bumpy process. He spoke very fluent Spanish for his age and no English. It has been such an adventure!

    ChelC~
Thanks for your sweet comments about my kids.
I'm passionate about adoption! I never thought we'd be able to do it the 2nd time around; but things just worked themselves out (well, God had a hand in it!) and we've got our 2nd little Vietnamese blessing!
With Homeschool Blogger, it's so simple~ you can pick from many different templates. I've played around with mine enough to figure out some basic html coding and really make my blog my own~ but you can start very basic and simple.
    Good luck and have fun!

    Thanks,
I have been playing around a bit with a blog there, and it's been really fun. I need to learn how to customize it more, but the forums there seem to have quite a bit of information.

How is the process in Vietnam? We adopted our older son from Guatemala, and we got a really bad attorney. Once we got his referral, it took almost two years to get him home. He was just a few months when we first saw his pictures and started petitioning for him, but our attorney was very lazy. We knew we were meant to have our son, so we were stuck with him because switching attorney's would mean losing our referral. I'm not ready to adopt again yet because it took a lot out of me emotionally being on a roller coaster for those two years. He's been so fun though... we've never stopped laughing since bringing him home, he's such a little firecracker. It's worth every bit of headache though... and every dang notarized document.

We're at homeschoolblogger.com/dontfencemein it's still kind of under construction, though I have gone a little crazy already. We are active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (mormons) so if any of the curriculum content sounds unfamiliar, it's probably teachings from the Book of Mormon... just in case anyone checks it out and ends up scratching their head in wonder.

I'll check out your blog and add you to my list of friends. I was playing around with my blog template today and totally messed it all us! So, I'm back to one of the generic templates~ I'll have to work on it someday to get it back to "normal"! So frustrating!

As for Vietnam adoption, it varies by agency and the province(s) they work with. We had two very great situations. Our first adoption took 10 months from start to finish~ this most recent one took only 7 months. We worked with a great facilitator, who has become our friend! I said after the first adoption that I'd never adopt through anyone but her. She told us while we were over there that she was closing her adoption program~ so I know that we are finished. It's bittersweet!

Sorry you had such a tough time bringing your little guy home. The agency we worked with oversees a Guatamala program~ I think they're going to continue with that for awhile, as someone else facilitates that program. Anyway, if you'd like me to inquire for you~ it's a reputable agency.

I do know that all the waiting just melts away when you get that precious little one in your arms! Glad you're enjoying him!

Oh crystal, praying for your baby.

That brings back memories. My second son came a little early. He was still 35 weeks gestation though. He only required a one week stay in the NICU, but it was so hard to see him like that. I had the flu and couldn't even go in for most of that time. All the babies in there leave such a sweet feeling. It had to be the most peaceful experience in my life holding him and feeding him in there. Despite the sadness of it, it's just a really amazing spirit in the NICU.
