Hi there. My name is Clare and I'm hoping to start homeschooling my 7 year old DS VERY soon. Apparently Alaska is a "green" state, so it is easier here than other places... I'm not sure of all that yet. So I will be lurking reading the other "Where do I start?" posts.
Welcome!!! I'm Jackie, in Central Ohio. I'm in my 8th year of HS'ing. Rachael is 12, Faythe 10, and Phillip 7. And I spent one glorious summer working in a church in Cordova, Alaska, just before the Exxon Valdez spill. I'd love to go back sometime!!! Check out Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). They are THE authority on the laws, etc. for each state. Membership runs roughly $100/year, but they will defend you for free if there's ANY trouble regarding your homeschooling...the schools give you hassles, the nieghbor calls Children's Services, etc.

Hi - Welcome, I hope that you enjoy this site. Everyone here is great. If you have any questions everyone is very helpful. I've been homeschooling my dc for about 8yrs. I have two children my dd12 and ds10. We travel alot, our home is in Michigan but we are currently in California. We hope to go to Alaska when the weather warms up enough to drive our rv there. Then spend a few months there before returning to MI. Welcome!!

Hi Clare Welcome, this is a great forum, even though I introduced myself 2 months ago, but haven't posted since... By the way, "Hello again to all you wonderful hs'ers." Were also in Alaska. I'm looking forward to bringing our other 2 home to school again (explained it in my intro)...it t'was a mistake, however, the teachers were wonderful !! It's the peers, and all the excess "non-sense" that can go with that. :roll:

Welcome, Clare! We have been homeschooling for 8 years. We have a 13 yo dd, 8 yo son, and 5 yo son. We love homeschooling! We just did a presentation on Alaska at our co-op this Wed. We had fun learning lots about Alaska . Happy Homeschooling!
Hello, Clare, we've been told Alaska is stunningly beautiful! Crocus and tulips are just beginning to emerge here in Kansas, so it will soon be beautiful here, too, if we can get all the tree branches removed from our winter ice-storms. We have two sophomores who are diligent in every way, and it's basically a pleasure to teach them. (Two grown children.) You'll find a great variety on this forum from beginners to veterans, from new moms to grandmothers. Welcome!
