After reading about all the board games everyone here loves a little while back, I got to thinking that one of my kids biggest complaints is that we never play board games with them. And we have loads of them. So... We talked about it and decided to have family games night. Last night was our first one. We chose the night in advance, bought chips, chocolate and fizzy drinks, and after dinner we sat and played. We ignored the phone when it rang - very hard for dh and let the machine pick it up. We only played for about 2 hours, but that was long enough. The kids got to stay up a bit later than usual, and I think that they felt pretty special. We are planning on doing this once a month. Just thought I'd share, since you guys are partly responsible for the inspiration:love:
that sounds like alot of fun, we try and do it once a month too. My dh love the games you have to act out. Or disney game on cd. We have lots of laugh. Sure, glad your family had a wonderful time.
We do that once a month or so too! We call it Family Night. We do a variety of things as a family on that night. I think it's very special for the kids!
Our family has a game night every night except Friday night and Saturday night. We (5 of us) take turn picking a game. We cherish this family time together. Where is the post about board games? I would like to read that. We are always on the lookout for more fun games (we have 60+ games currently!).
We don't have an official game night. We just like games. I like the idea that one night in particular is game night. I need to talk to Freddy about making one night family night. I am thinking Tuesdays since Freddy works weekends. Thanks for getting me thinking about this. Beth
I pla games in the daytime with my children. It's hard to get hubby involved. He don't like games because the toddlers usally make a mess of the games.
I've been letting the kids play monopoly Jr. occasionally for school (math) but we have family movie and pizza night every friday.
We have game night about once a month. We tried for once per week, but DH wasn't always available. We play after dinner and have a lot of fun. Some of our favorite family games are: Cranium Cadoo Cranium Family Fun game Sorry Jr. Pictionary Scrabble Clue Disney Trivial Pursuit Disney Scene It ...and our new favorite Taboo, we have to pick through the cards to find appropriate ones for the kids. This is more of an adult game, but we keep it family friendly. We love to spend this family time and there is always lots of laughter.
We tried it every week too. Sometimes we make it, sometimes we don't. I love these nights: lots of fun, laughter and togetherness! Something the kids will always remember about growing up! We play: Monopoly, Life, Set, Pit, Milbourne, Triominoes, and some others that have already been mentioned. Our kids also made up another game when they were younger that they STILL love to play! They named it "Slam Ball". We have a bunch of little foam balls. We divide the people and the balls up into two teams, and get at both ends of a hallway we have. Then we throw the balls at each other and dive to get the ones that land between.....it's hard to explain, but you wouldn't believe how fun it gets! We laugh and laugh, plus it's good exercise!
Has anyone played "Mad Gab"? It looks like it would be a lot of fun, but haven't bought it yet. Also, what are the Cranium games like? I hear great things about them but wonder if they're hard to learn. Thanks!
We have Cranium Cadoo. It's acting, drawing, and molding playdough type stuff. My kids like it, I don't think it's too hard to learn.
The Cranium family of games are great. They are easy to learn and fun for everyone. There are age appropriate games for many age groups.
We tried it once but it didnt work out. We just get so busy on the farm and then when we have some down time finally we just want to rest with a book or favorite tv program. I need to think of this more, my family is really big on dominos. Thanks for bringing up the subject.. Sam
Thanks so much, AussieMum! I will check it out. By the way, I have never heard of "Boomo." What kind of game is it?
