What do you all have in mind for the next few weeks as school ends up? We are justing trying to get finished with what I wanted done by the end of the year. We have another coop classes to take. We have finished health for the year this week. We have a group zoo class and then our state zoo trip later in May. Then a big end of year reading club party for the kids. They will read a book and do a oral report and dress as a character in the book.

We never really stop schooling. I was thinking maybe we'll do something a little different, like days where everything revolves around a story book. Maybe finally use that Rock & Learn Spanish video I bought.
Then there's VBS, her classes, and playing outside to sop up all that sun!!

We school year round so that when we want to take time off we do. We have one more lesson and the last test to take for 1st grade math and then we will jump right into second grade math. Which btw I have been going through the next math and.....ugh! They teach them regrouping (carrying the one) at the end of 1st but they don't see it again until Chapter 7 of 2nd grade? What's up with that? I hate to say it but...looks like we will be blowing through math for a while.

We typically do sometype of *graduation* party for the kids in our homeschool group. Last year we did a tour of a pizza place and then we gave the kids each a gift bag of *stuff* that each of the moms had brought. (play doh, pencils, etc...) Maybe this year we will try and do mini golf.

Well, we are looking forward to our summer break here. We will take off about two months in the summer and then get back to full time work. Through the summer we do schooling but it's very relaxed. We just do "educational" activities and videos and a few worksheets and things now and then. Also, during the summer, I use this time to do deep cleaning and reorganizing. I also plan to do some big projects (like painting) that I just can't seem to get to during the school year.

We have about five weeks or so left before we take our summer break. We are finishing up some subjects and some are already finished. We will have a fun field trip to Dollywood to end our year. Our hs group also has an award ceremony at the end of May that we will participate in as well. Our hs classes will finish up about the same time we finish our school year so that works out nicely.

Lorna, I like your idea of dressing up as a book character. That's a fun thing to do. We did a beach week last year but not very exciting. I may have to try that!

    mask day

We also do a neat mask day. Each kid picks an animal, studies it, presents and oral report and has to make and wear a mask of that animal. We did chipmunk, frog and my oldest did a horse from olden days called Eohippus. Something I had never heard of. It was a day of fun and learning too. Someone was a butterfly actually it was Trish's daughter, Vicki. Then we had a polar bear, tiger, etc.

Ahhh, summer vacation. We will be heading out west to see family. We hope to see the Grand Canyon and lots of other wonderful things on our big road trip.
Once we get back we will continue with school two or three days a week depending on the activities. So far we have tennis, swimming, a comic book making art class and a tye-dye art class, then pottery with "the wheel." Ds wants to do basketball and dd wants to contine dance/poms. I'll be looking forward to our break in the fall  Oh well, we do love it and have sooooo much fun. We are also doing a big garden share project with the city.
Blessings to everyone. Our homeschool group has a big end of the year picnic planned.

We don't say we're "doing school" anyway so I don't intend on not doing our normal routine(which really just consists of activities and games that happen to be educational) during the summer. Of course when we go somewhere on vacation I'm not going to load up all that stuff but vacations are full of new experiences and oppurtunities for learning, anyway!! :D

I am anxious for the break. We will be done by the first week of May. I dont plan on a long break, I want to get extra days in with the new baby coming. We will probably start back up in July. I have some summer work pages ready, but mostly fun stuff, nothing too detailed.
