We just finished reading aloud our biography, and are looking for another book. I'd be curious about y'all's suggestions. My girls are 8 and (almost) 10, and I've read many "classics" to them, such as "Black Beauty", "Heidi", "The Secret Garden", "The little Princess". Others are wonderful books, but don't read aloud very well, such as "Swiss Family Robinson" and "My Friend Flicka". I've also read them non-classics, too. So, if you could reccomend JUST ONE BOOK to read aloud to my girls, what would it be? (REMEMBER: JUST ONE!!!) Thanks!
How about "Little Women"? I remember, as a teenager, I read that book aloud to myself- it just seemed like the type of book that needed read out loud! Heidi
Jackie... You know I have all boys, so I don't know about this recommendation, but I just finished reading *Dinotopia*. It was great as a read aloud. TONS of beautiful colorful pictures. The book I used from the library was big, so the pictures were too. The boys even started drawing dinosaurs, etc. We just loved it! Tina
Tina: Well, I've read "Swiss Family Robinson" and "The Jungle Book", which are more of a "boy" book, and I hope to eventually read "Where the Red Fern Grows" and "Old Yeller", too. I'm one of those gals who always got upset because my little brother got to do all the fun, "guy" stuff! Rachael has a hunting license! Heidi, I've considered "Little Women". But I've never read it myself. I started "Jo's Boys" when I was younger and didn't care for it...I may have been too young at the time. I will definately consider it!
Hi, I would definitely vote for the Little House on the Prairie series, if ever your daughters have not read it already! It is so pleasant to read aloud and fascinating from beginning to end. "Little Women" is a also wonderful story, but one that I would not read to an eight or a ten-year-old. Even though my twelve-year old daughter is intellectually quite mature, I am waiting another couple of years to give her that book so that she can understand and appreciate fully the complexity of some events and relationships. Have fun reading! Martine
Jackie, Dd and I vote for "Pollyanna." She loved it so much she re-read it to herself (That speaks volumes from an almost ten year old.)Right now we are happily reading our way through the "American Girls" series. Happy reading, Tammy
