    Check your printers!
Most if not all printers have a print quality option called "DRAFT". Sometimes knows as PREVIEW MODE....

It uses only 50% of the ink normally used!

Also, with these particular lapbooks, I do not print every sheet, just those I actually plan to use. Everything else, I just take notes....

Also, I have an HP (Hewllet Packard) printer. There is a generic ink available that is awesome! I get it from Walmart or Target. The HP black ink is $35 for .25ml of ink. The generic ink is $18 for .40ml !!!! Nearly half for nearly DOUBLE the ink! Yea!

The brand is the INNOJET brand with the green box.

Just though I would pass this info along....
    Remember, print in DRAFT!

Jen...you are brillant! I will be looking for that generic ink...I have an HP also.

So....how do I find this Draft mode? I have the HP three in one printer. I have no clue where my manual is...lol...I will look for it.

Oh...with the generic...does it go by the same number as HP...like 94, 97, that kind of thing?

You need to consult your printers manual for exact information,

but for me.... when I click PRINT, regardless of what I am printing... A little "Print" window pops up. Within this window are options, such as "How many copies" and options to have the paper landscape or portrait and so on.....

there is a button option that says something to the effect of "Properties", or "Advanced" ... I click that and chose "DRAFT" on the Print Quality option.

Actually, because 99% of my printing is in draft black and white mode, I actually set my printer "Defaults" to that setting.... So I do not have to change it each time I click print.

I only have to make changes when that 1% time comes around that I may wish to print in color or at a higher print level.

I did this in windows XP by going to:
    START button> CONTROL PANEL> PRINTERS.
Then I RIGHT CLICKED on my printers icon and chose PROPERTIES from the menu.
Then I chose the "ADVANCED" tab, then at the bottom of that tab I clicked the PRINTING DEFAULTS button.
And then chose how many copies, the paper orientation, and the color or black and white and the level of ink, DRAFT...

Now, when I print, it automatically does this.

Also, I do not have a link for the ink just yet, give me a minute to look for one.....

And YES! It does say on the generic box: "Replaces HP 23", or 15 or whatever number you are looking for.

    And one more PS.
My printer is an HP 812c.
All it does is print and it is older than my twins!
But it works just fine, so why buy another, you know?

I want to do something like this so bad but something is wrong with my cd reader on my computer. It will read dvds just fine but it won't recognize cds. We had done a system recovery, which meant we needed to re-do the printer. Without being able to use a cd I can't use my printer!! It's under warranty, when I called they told me to try a complete recovery but it didn't help. One of these days I'll get around to getting it taken care of!

I was so excited when I got the email about "The Moon" - especially since it was in my "cart" over there for a summer project!

I can't wait to print it out - I have an older HP Laser for this sort of thing...

BUT - I wanted to share the guy I get my ink from for my printer on eBay:

    http://stores.ebay.com/Digitgo_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm

His quick at shipping and the ink is just fine and a lot cheaper for my model at least (cannon 3-in-1)

I love visits :) The only week we are NOT available because of the 4-H fair is the last full week in July.

Our field is great for star-gazing.... and I can't wait to pull out the telescope again.

They are starting to learn a lot... my son worked the cash register this past week at the farmer's market and dealt more with customers and my daughter helped by getting everything (ok just eggs this past week) bagged up for him. Works well.....

Jennifer, Thanks so much for the free Moon lapbooking site and for the ink info. I also have a 3-in 1 HP printer. I just bought new ink, but the next time, Walmart here I come to buy the "other" ink:)
