I just read 3 pages of a post on TOH about one person that has never baked a potato in her 50 years of life!..... the tread was funny But I must admit I have never baked a potato in an oven!

I bake my potatoes in the microwave! I bake 4 large ones at a time and wash them, prick them and spray with PAM and sprinkle with Kosher salt. I put them on a plate bake for 10 minutes then flip over and continue for 6-8 minutes or until fork tender, then wrap in foil to keep warm for dinner.

But I saw this recipe I wanted to share I think I'll try it next week.

    John's Baked Potatoes

I like to wash and scrub mine, then take an apple corer and cut a core out of the center of the potato. I cut two 1/2" pieces off each end of the core and set them aside.(I munch on what's left of the core) Then I stuff the now hollow potato with butter, minced onion and garlic and put the plugs back in. Next I brush the potatoes with bacon grease and sprinkle them generously with sea salt crystals and bake them on a cookie sheet in the oven for approx. an hour at 350 degrees or until a fork penetrates easily. These are sooo delicious.

    John's Baked Potatoes sound delicious!

I just wash mine, prick them, and put them in the oven. Sometimes I will put foil around them but I usually do not.

I've baked potatoes both ways (but not John's way! It sounds delicious. :) ) The microwave is a lot faster, but I like the taste of oven baked potatoes better. Sometimes if I'm in a hurry I'll get them started in the microwave and then just let them finish in the oven. I don't wrap mine with foil, either. Just wash them, prick them, and toss them in. (Sounds like a line from "Patty Cake", doesn't it?)

I love baked potatoes! My dh make them in the microwave. I always use an oven. I just wash, prick, wrap in foil and put them in the oven for an hour or so. Once I forgot they were in there....it was like 3 hours! lol. They were great.

That recipe sounds soooooo awesome! I am going to have to try that! I think my dh will be impressed.

Oh, my, that sounds GREAT!!! We bake them in the oven. I don't like microwave baked potatoes. Also, the crock pot makes really good baked potatoes, too! We often put in extras so we have them to fry the next day!

I also saw where one person boiled theirs for 15 minutes and bake for 45 in the oven, for "fluffy" potatoes.

I wash it, poke it with a fork, wrap in paper towel and push the potato button on the microwave:)

However, if I have something baking in the oven, then I will wrap in foil and put it in there also. OR if we are grilling I do the same thing. Though I never add butter or salt...maybe I should try that?

I LOVE baked potatoes! Very rarely do we put them in teh oven and when we do dh does it. Here is how we usually do it.....

Clean the potatoes and prick them all over with a fork. Set each potato on a small sqare of foil and put a pat of butter (I use lots of butter) on it. Then wrap the potato in foil, twist the ends and put it on the grill. It is fabulous! The butter soaks in real good.

Normally we just bake ours in the micorwave. But for special occasions, we bake ours (either in the oven, or on the barbeque grill). We clean them, poke holes with a fork in the skin, then wrap it in raw bacon, then in foil. When a fork inserted in the center goes in easy, and the bacon is browned and crisped a little, it is done.;)

Oh, Faith, we call those "Twice-Baked Potatoes". A friend of my aunt's use to make them, and I promised my Faythe I would sometime. Only we finish them off in the oven!

We actually bury them under the coals when we go camping!

How long do you leave them on the grill?

Just a couple of minutes Jackie just to grill the cheese off on the top and to melt the cheese ,even better if you use stringy cheese and a splash of worcestershire sauce- i'm not sure if you get that in the US though,

Oh, yes! Worchestershire Sauce is a "must have" in my pantry!

Hey, do you know how to make a proper "clotted cream" or "Devonshire Cream"? I have a recipe my kids love whenever I make scones (usually for a special occasion), but I won't guarantee how authentic it is!

Here you go Jackie,This is one my gran taught me :

    Devonshire clotted cream

    Ingredients
    4 oz Sour cream
    1 tb Powdered sugar
    8 oz Heavy (whipping) cream

    Directions
Blend the sour cream and heavy cream together in a bowl using a wire whisk.
Cover with a wet towel and let stand on the kitchen counter for 6-8 hours.
    Refrigerate.
When ready to serve, whisk in in the powdered sugar. Use more or less powdered sugar just to kill the slightly bitter sour cream taste.

But heres one my MIL gave me:

    Recipe:

    4 ounces mascarpone

1 cup (240 ml) heavy whipping cream

    1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 or 2 tablespoons granulated white sugar

Zest of lemon or lime (optional)

Place all the ingredients in a large bowl and beat until the mixture holds its shape and looks like softly whipped cream. Use right away or cover and refrigerate the cream until serving time.

I'll try your gran's recipe. The other one has MASCARPONE. I never heard of that!

    THis is what I use:

    1 cup heavy cream
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/2 cup powdered sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla

Beat all ingredients until stiff. Refridgerate and serve with scones and jam.
