We are studying slavery , Civil War and soon the Underground Railroad. I would like to make up a version of hide and seek to imitate the underground railroad. There would be 4 dc :7,7,5,3. Any suggestions? Thanks! Lori
How about making one of those quilts (you could draw one, too) that give directions on where they were supposed to go? You could also sing one of the old spiritual songs that was to give the escaped slaves instructions on where to go and who to look for. I love that idea! What fun!
underground railroad They would have to learn the stars and bird calls too. That is how the slaves traveled. We did a big study on that last year. We read several books. One about a slave boy his name was Corey Birdsong. It was great. It was one of the freedom series books. It is his diary. A must to read. I will try to look up the name of that book for you. Cook up some grits for them to try. Fat back is a must too. Can't you tell I am from SC. LOL
You might want a slave hunter...perhaps you or another parent? Could you rope off an area to be the Ohio Rive that must be crossed? I've an idea, but I need to think it through first. Will try to explain it when I have it clear in my mind!
