I notice there are 8 users or members and 124(!) guests online. Does that mean that there are 124 people just watching and reading? :O
I am sure that some are members just not signed in. Is this normal for a forum to have so many people just reading, not posting?
This site always has tons of guests, many more guests than members. I don't know if it's normal for forums, but I know I have been to many (not all) that require membership before forums can be read.
I like the ones where you have to be a member before they can be read. I suppose most of those 124 are not members.
I just read on here as a guest for a while before I signed up. I guess I was just nervous because I was new to homeschooling and didn't want to sound dumb.
I admit sometimes i read before i log in and what you will probably find is that most of those guests are actually users already logged in because everytime you view a page the site cannot keep up so it ends up with several users when in reality theres only one.....if that makes sense?
Most of the "guests" are not members. And yep they read, read, read. I always check to see what people are reading. ---------- alway have.
I owuld never join a forum unless I could read and get a "feel" for it first. But it DOES make you pause that so many are lurking around here!
The only ones that bother me are the chuckleheads with more free time than me! I will never understand the thought processes of some of the nuts that have posted junk here.
If only the most recent pages could be read by lurkers, that would be helpful, too. That way, people like Jackie could come and visit but not have access to research everybody from the beginning. There have been other threads addressing this situation. I wonder if that would be difficult for Amanda to do. Then, again, there are "tons" of people who have joined and have never once posted. Maybe they should be deleted from membership after a certain amount of time?
I especially like the idea of dropping them after a certain amount of time if they haven't posted. Then, for people like Brenda who are gone temporarily for an extended period, they can always sign up again when they come back.
i agree there are a lot of members and most of them have never posted a thing. I try to post at least once a week well i also need all of the helpful advice too. I thought that is why someone would join, for advice, good conversations, and to meet new people. I will never know why no one would post here this is a GREAT site!
 Ummmm, I try to post at least once a week too! Can you tell? OK, maybe I get in a "bit" more than once a week! Haha, I get in more than once a DAY! And for the reasons you stated Jo Anna--it's such a GREAT site with GREAT people!
I lurked here for several months before I posted! I foudn this site when I was considering hs'ing and joined when I actually began hs'ing. I gained so much useful info in those few months and would never have joined if I couldn't have read other posts first. That's just my honest opinion.
I agree with you ladies maybe only read the first few lines or subject and then if they want to read more they have to sign in. I like Jackie's idea too.
