I need to get Tanner a kid's Bible before VBS starts in August and he also will need one when he starts going to children's church in the fall. He has a preschool Bible, but it's more or less a story book than anything else. He likes to look through our Bible, but I need a kid version for him. Anyone have any suggestions? What to look for? Where I can look? The local Christian bookstore in our area closed not long ago so the only other place close to here would be my old church, which is fine...I go to their store all the time, but I'm wondering if I have other options.

I know http://www.mardel.com has several links to help find the correct Bible for someone. Even if you don't have a Mardel near you, it might be helpful to use their site for research.

JenPooh- my youngest son is seven and we bought him his own "regular" Bible for his birthday this year. We chose the NIrV version of "The Adventure Bible for Young Readers" (available at Christian Book Dist.). He loves it. He likes that it fits a cool neon Bible cover, and that he can look up verses during devotions and read along. There are "did you know" sections, and other little sections that relate the Bible to kids.

    Very good Bible.

Great site Marylyn! My youngest kids bibles are My Favorite Bible Stories, The Beginners Bible by Karen Henley.

I am also getting ready to get one up from that.

WE got this one too! We got it for my daughter when she learned to read. We use it with schoolwork too. LOVE it!

When it was time to get my son one, he picked a different one. It is NIrV (New International Readers Version - based on NIV but for young readers). He got one without all the bells and whistles, but he loves to sit and read it. :D

My DD (7) now has a NKJV Pink Prescious Moments bible for completing 1st grade. I got it at Borders. I waited for a long time to find a NKJV. It's what I use and her Bible curriculum is KJV. )The have other kids bibles that are NIV. I also got it for 20 % off because it is for schooling:) We dont have a christian store around here. when we go to IN or MO I always go to them and spend too much.

Tanner will be 5 next month. He is in the beginning stages of reading. Meaning, he can read 3-4 letter words, sight words, etc. However, for VBS he will get extra credit if he can find his verse in the Bible (his age group gets to cheat with a bookmarker though), so I'd like one that is in verse/book order. Not a "story" book format. I need a "big boy" Bible. I'm not concerned about him not being able to fully read it yet, because I'd like him also to become familiar with the order of the books, etc. which I think is important.

All of you have given me such great resources and ideas and such. I think I am going to go to the local bookstore tomorrow and then to the bookstore at my old church to see what I can find. If I can't find what I need there, then I will try Amazon and other links you all have posted. Thanks again! :D
