I'm using Easy Grammar next year for Grammar. I was wondering if you think I need something else to go along with it. I know our requirements say composition. I was wondering what that really included. Thanks in advance.

composition is just writing, if your child is already into it then do some writing, I did easy grammar and a writing class last year in 8th. This year we went with LPs and next year I am going with BJU for English I think. that will be 10th for me, but we are working on compositions this year, ds has a 600 word essay he is working on right now.

You could try Jensen's Format Writing. I haven't used it yet, but I hear it's really good for putting together those five-paragraph essays and other stuff too.

There's Writing Strands. I've only tried the level 3, but I used it with some 9th grade boys who hadn't done much writing before that. We enjoyed it.

Try looking at Rainbow Resource Center under Writing. Or your local teacher-store. You really don't have to invest in a huge composition course with all kinds of bells and whistles to learn how to write for different purposes. Try Remedia Press, Instructional Fair, Teacher Created Resources, Frank Schaffer, Evan-Moor, or Steck-Vaughn. All of these have good materials that don't cost an arm and a leg, that are to-the-point.
