Beau will be 7 in July and of age for compulsory attendance. Is he really almost 7 years old?! That's crazy!!! It was only yesterday he was a curly headed toddler...right? Or is that just me? LOL

Anyway, I'm thinking of schedules. How do YOU schedule things? I'm thinking that I like Reading and writing to be daily along with math, but what about science and history? Can I get away with doing one science experiment a week (most of mine take a few days fro observance and so on, they don't just last for one day)? I'm not freaking out about this yet, but...I can feel it coming on. lol He's a bright boy and doing mostly 1st grade things here and there, and he knows he has to start full time in a few months.

How do you space things out?
Is history ok to do every 3 days?
Is science once a week alright?
We are schooling every day EXCEPT for Sundays, is that cool?

Thank you so much! I'm just a bit frazzled! :D LOL

Thats the beauty of homeschooling, you can do whatever fits your family situation. When my kids were young we homeschooled year round. We did reading, writing, spelling, phonics, and math everday. All the other subjects were done a few days a week. Relax, you will find a groove. There is no reason to be frazzled! :)

I know right?!?! My oldest will be 10 tomorrow! 10!!! That's double digits!

I see no reason to science and social studies daily at that unless you want to.

Do what works for you and your kids!!! If 6 days a week doesn't burn you out, go for it! We just went down to 4 days a week and now I'm thinking I may go back to 5.... I have convinced hubby he needs a nap in the am after working Thursday night.

I don't do history and science on the same day, and I don't do every part of language arts on the same day... they read every day (even non-school days) but spelling and writing and grammar all rotate.

We spent 45-60 minutes per day (Mon-Fri) on reading, writing and spelling, 45 minutes per day (Mon-Fri) on Math, 30 minutes each per day (Mon-Fri) on Science and Social studies, 2 sessions a week for 15 minutes each on P.E. and 1 session a week each for health, art and/or music. I tried to keep the school day to 2.5-3 hours per day. This gave my kids plenty of time for outside activities like sports and the theatre.

My baby just turned 14; he'll be HIGH SCHOOL next year!!!

You can do whatever you want! You can pick a science topic and do it every day for a week or so, and ignore history. And then you can spend the next week or so doing history and ignoring science. Or you could do both every day, or you could do each two days a week.... Whatever works best for you! (I've actually done all the above at one time or another!)

Thanks for the advice :) I really think doing it every other day or every three days will work alright. Reading and math daily, with a science experiment a week (with some coordinating worksheets I think)

BenTher- How do you spend 45 minutes on math? I'm not a math person, but that seems like a long time! lol I think it's just me though. :/

I know time passes by but it always hits me when I look at my kids. Where does time go?

My boys were very slow starters when it came to math. In first grade, I needed to mix in a lot of art to help them with calendars, time, money and shapes. I used workbooks to help them with adding and subtracting single, double and triple digits. I used the 45 minute time slot as an estimate; some days we spent more time, some days less, and on really BAD days, none at all...
