I can't remember who told us about the free dvd a while back. We are watching it now and really are enjoying it. I just wanted to say thanks. It really works with us using Abeka's history for 8th grade,

Not sure that I tipped you off to it, but we are using it, too. We are finding it to be informative and we've learned some new trivia, but it seems to give a very shallow overview so far, imo. We are just after the Civil War, so I'm looking forward to how it covers modern history. We are also watching for any slants that we notice with mass marketed get-it-into-the-hands-of-every-American-child productions.

We watched the Rebels yesterday. Vicki likes the fact you put real people to the faces. She needs that.

I am the same way. :) I didn't ever really "get" the Civil War battles until I watched movies about them. Suddenly, all those battles and generals actually mean something.

I do think the DVD does a good job of also bringing to light the back stories of what was going on that you never really heard about in school. One of the things I didn't realize was how Washington's camp had to inoculate themselves against smallpox by smearing puss from a sick person into cuts on a well person. Hmmmmm....should we include Washington's monumental decision to mandatorily vaccinate his troups in our textbook or that he chopped down a cherry tree? Decisions, decisions....

I never knew George Washington's troops had to do that. We haven't got that far yet. That is cool to know that. I like to know the little things. That makes history or any other subject more interesting.
