    Hey,

I was just wondering if any of you know how things are going with Chinook, as far as making a disk or whatever. I know Deena has been very busy (I can really sympathize) so I'm not trying to push the issue. I was just wondering if anyone has any updated information about it.

    Thanks,

    Kelley

    book

My kids and I are reading a book called Our Only May Amelia by Jennifer Holm. It talks about the Chinooks and the Nasel River. It is really good so far.

Thank you for the book idea, but I was asking about a geography project we did last summer.

Deena sent a little stuffed dog, named Chinook, to various locations around the US. Eventually the dog made it back to Deena and when she got time she was going to try and get everything documented and on a disk or something to that effect. Everytime Chinook landed somewhere the people who had him would go siteseeing of local areas, take pictures, pick up informaiton... We put it all in a binder and when we were done sent it on to the next person.

I hadn't heard anything about it in a while so I figured I would ask.

I didn't figure I would get much response since I pretty much allienated myself from others a few weeks ago, but I figured I would try.

Oh, well, I have my pictures so I guess that will have to do. No sweat, I can always find somewhere else to go where I won't be judged.

    Thanks anyway for responding,

    Kelley :) :)

    Hi Kelley,

Knowing how much Deena keeps on her plate with her kids I would think she is just waiting until their school year wraps up. Of course I am just thinking out loud! I also remembering her saying she would try to do the disk project but wasn't sure if that was a solid go ahead or not. Do you have her email address? She is so friendly I am sure she wouldn't mind if you enquired.

No, I don't have her address. I figured I would ask here since there are some others who (I think) keep in contact with her outside of the homeschooling forums.

Sorry I must have missed something on ABC lately Kelley. I didn't know there was a problem. I just thought the book was interesting and about some of the things.

I wasn't really a problem, just a major difference of opinion that is better off left deleted where Sandy put it.

I was hoping that it wouldn't lead to outcasting, but I'm thinking it has, or maybe I'm just being overly touchy.

Either way I will look up the book. It will be nice to read something that doesn't revolve around biology, anthropology, english, and health. I seriously need to numb my mind with more than just the Bernstein Bears!

Is the book a long book? Mystery? Drama?.... What's it about?

I will email her later today and check in on it Kelley. Not sure what happened at abc but I would hold no grudges even if I did remember!

The book takes place in Washington in 1899. It is about the life of the only girl ever born in the settlement. Her name is May Amelia Jackson. Her family is Finnish. She has seven older brothers and her mom is pregnant with she hopes a sister. She loves adventure and her daddy doesn't think she is a proper young lady. It is a Newberry Honor book, ALA Notable book, and Parents' Choice Silver Award book. It is 250 pages long. I am actually reading it to my kids. My oldest could read it but sometimes I pick a book to read to them for fun. The back of the book says ages 9 and up. I would say probably 10 or 4th grade if they read on grade level. We are on page 72 and enjoying it very much.

Kelly, I think you're being overly touchy. I know I hadn't replied because I'm not sure where Deena is on the project, and probably the others feel the same way. None of us has anymore information than you do. Believe me, no one is trying to leave you out of anything. You were a vital part of the project and I'm sure you will be included in anything Deena comes up with. So, as you say, let's leave other issues "deleted", and just move on.
