I have looked at it. I am intrigued by the grammar songs aspect, but such songs can be bought on cd roms by other publishers.

Looking at the teacher manual and text did nothing for me. It left me flat.

We used it and loved it

It's very repetitive and I've heard other people say they use it every other year. You can't get the feel of it by just looking at it. It takes doing it a week or so. It flows pretty easily. The kids get used to labeling their sentences and their jingles. It stuck with my kids. We even liked the writing assignments, which some say the writing isn't too good. But it got us writing, which is what we needed.

We loved it and will be using it next year with my 7th grader (and maybe my 4th grader). I'm not sure I'd go any earlier than 3rd or 4th grade, but that's just my opinion (we did use it with our middle in 2nd, but my hsling philosophy is changing--I just don't see the point in doing grammar every year for years on end). I'm really considering holding off on my 4th grader until she's in 6th and 7th grade. As long as they get it after that, then they're done.

So...all that to say...we LOVE Shurley. The kids liked and I did. They learned ALOT.

    HTH,
    Patty:D

I have a friend that swears by it and she used it I think with all 6 of hers.
I looked at it and it didn't seem like it would be a good fit for us.

I think there is just too much info on the pages and it's not organized as good as it could be. That's why I get confused. I just like to open things and go (lazy me).

We did not like Shurley at all. We switched after 3 weeks. It was not well organized for us. We are very much into the open and go like stated before. We did have really good luck with Rod and Staff (3rd grade) and will be continuing with that next year as well. Hope that helps.

We did Shurley and liked it at first. But it did get repetitious and boring for my kids after awhile. We moved to A Beka Language for a couple of years, then to R&S because I love the Teacher books! :)
