I have a first edition book. As far as I can tell, it's not that different from the second edition book. My 9th grade boy is doing this because I also have the audio cd and he can listen to it while he reads along. I bought the new Student Notebook for him to use because he's so disorganized he can't keep a regular spiral notebook, and this seems to be helping.

Problem: the first edition text does not have a code that gives access to the website, where there is material essential to doing some of the activities in the notebook.

Could anybody give me the code that's found in the Student Notes in the front of the second edition textbook, so we can use the "extras" at the site?

Why don't you call and ask Apologia? It's been my experience that they are VERY accomodating.... (Don't have a second edition, so I can't help!)

It's supposed to be in the Student Notes in the front of the book.
