Ok this is not a debate on weather you want gun control etc..

I am posting this information for the family's who are like ours who love our second amendment and have guns in our homes and who would like to teach your children not only about gun safety but also about American history.

The Revolutionary War Veterans Association has this wonderful project called the "Apple Seed Project" Its state wide and my daughter and hubby went to one near Temple Texas this last week. You can see more on it on my blog.

The cost was very cheap compared to the ones we had seen with 4-H or private gun safety courses. My daughter was free my hubby paid for his two days which I think was about $70

Having a simple 22 rifle is good enough but must have a sling. The instructors my hubby said were awesome and were so good to my daughter being really patient with her and encouraging her.

They talked not only about the American revolution but also the Texas Revolution since yes the course for this one is in Texas :) but they have others as well.

To learn more about it try their website

We were very impressed with it and plan to go to others in the future. I just wished they had one in San Antonio.

Thanks, Sam! It's something my husband might be interested in. One of these days, I will break down and take a gun safety class!

I got "in trouble" on time. My middle one had gone to Safety Park, which is a two-day event for Kindergarten/1st graders on safety, run by park rangers, the local police and fire departments, etc. I went to pick her up. The ranger hands her off to me, and says, "Tell Mommy about...." And I hear something to the effect of "NEVER, EVER, EVER touch a gun!" To which I ammended, "Unless you're with Daddy, and he says it's OK." There were NO other children around, the only one who heard it was mine. This lady was REALLY upset with me! I explained that my husband shot, and he wanted our kids to grow up with a healthy sense of how to properly handle a gun. But I could see her just WANTING to get my kid out of that "unsafe" environment!

Oh I know what you mean, you never know when your going to offend someone because you dare to own a gun:eek:

Its funny though because its my female neighbors who call me when they find a snake or something in their yard they want me to shoot hahaha but they don't own a gun. Thats ok its not for everyone I am just happy they don't roll their eyes at me.

Ours are locked away and they also have a safety lock on them even if they could get to them, and the kids will all take these gun safety courses with apple seed. My daughter loved it!

    Sam :)
