I can't tell you how excited I am about the summer homeschool schedule I worked up for my kids. We're going to push through the next 8 weeks pretty hard because I'm due with #5 at the end of August. I can't get over how well this schedule has worked out for us (I started last Monday). And the great thing about this 5 day plan (as opposed to M-F) is that I'm not stressed at all about missing a whole day to a play date or other summer activity. My 6yo (William) LOVES seeing this printed out so he knows what to expect coming up. My 4yo (Gabriel) loves the time I'm spending with him one-on-one in the 10:00 hour while his big brother works independently. And I've been able to get so much housework done in the mornings while the kids play before 10, and have time in the afternoons to play with the kids outside or run an errand before making dinner. Such an improvement over my "winging it" approach over this last year!! I'm sure this will all change after we settle in with the new baby, but I'll take it while I can. :-D Happy Dance! Thanks for the advice and encouragement along the way as I try to get this all figured out! Gah! And I can't get the darn thing to upload as an attachment! Bummer.
Well now I want to see it..lol Glad it's working for you. I too like the idea of scheduling things as days not M-F. I also seperate my subjects. Everything other than the skill subjects (math and language arts) has it's own schedule and I just x it when we do it. If it takes us 3 years to do what I plan for a year, so be it.
This sounds like how our days go too. We do 180 days, and not necessarily M-F. We school year round and we have yet to have a year where were close to not finishing on time. My planner is numbered days 1-180. So much less stress!
Maybe you can upload it to google docs and link us to it? I know I have put a few things there... but I'm not good on how it works..lol
OH MY! Why did I never think of this??? So simple instead of trying to schedule days then always feeling behind!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
WOW, what good ideas!! I have a 5 year old, a 4 year old, and a 2 year old, so I am definitely wanting to see this schedule!!!!
Thank you, I never would have thought of that! Here it is: 5-Day Homeschool Plan When I'm working with Gabriel (4yo), my 2yo is usually with us following along. My baby girl is just happily playing around. Immediately after lunch my 2yo goes for a nap. My baby usually wakes up from her first nap at around noon, so she's usually eating, playing, or watching "Signing Time" while I do the math and history or science with William. What I have down for Gabriel's schedule is always tentative for that day, because he naps every other day or so. I hope this is helpful! Let me know if you want to know what books and sources I'm using.
I had to request access to view it... I think you can change the settings to show anyone who has the link. Anyway mine will come from fawnlovesjasper
