Wanted to share this activity... My ds loves this book and dvd! So, I searched for ideas on how to incorporate this into my lessons about the alphabet for him. I came across a few fun things. Later, I had a brain flash to make a coconut tree out of construction paper and place on a new cookie sheet. I covered it with clear contact paper. Then, I used a set of magnetic alphabet letters for him to act out the story. Later, I plan to act out each letter that we study each week for reinforcement. He loves it. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I also painted a coconut tree (back in the winter) on an old freezer we have in our garage. Then, I put a set of magnetic letters on the tree so he could play with this when we are in there or playing on the driveway. He also has enjoyed playing with it.

What a neat idea!!! Both my girls still have the story memorized from when they were little. Phillip is four, so he is just the right age for something like that. Maybe I could put it on the refridge.....
Check out the virtual vine and hubbard's cupboard for nice Chicka .... ideas. The Virtual Vine has a whole unit and she adds on to it a lot. She's got other nice units, too. We wear out that dvd! Some days I think I will scream if I hear it again. Isn't Trashy Town on there, too? That song sticks in my head and I can't stand it!! :lol:

Thanks everyone for the additional websites... for the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom activities. I found a few more things to do with my son!!! I'm also very excited because this afternoon I found the Chicka Chicka 1,2, 3 book at TJMaxx. I didn't realize (or had forgotten) that there was such a book. I love it! Hoping ds will love this one too!
The Chicka, Chicka, 1, 2, 3 book is... just like the alphabet one except with numbers. The story is slightly different but with the same idea of the characters going up an apple tree and then falling down. It covers numbers 0-20 and then 10-100! I figured since my son enjoyed the alphabet one so much that maybe he will like the number one as well and he loved it! I actually like this one even better than the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!!! I looked for "Chicka Chicka 1,2,3" at the library, and they didn't have it listed. So today when I was there, I asked about it. She looked it up, and found out it wasn't listed, too! So she did a search of some kind to see if it could be ordered. According to her, it's DUE TO COME OUT in August! She assured me that they WOULD be getting it!
That is so strange Jackie... maybe they couldn't order it because it was backordered??? I know amazon.com has it and I got it at a discount store (TJMaxx) so it's on the shelf. :wink:

We have Boom Chicka Rock , the song, on a tape called Counting Kittens. There's all kinds of counting songs on there. They are cute songs and they really are good for learning. I must be a terrible mom, because some days I'd rather hear the Beastie Boys!!!! :roll: ( Not when Jeannie is around! :wink: )
Becky, I'm SHOCKED, LOL! Though (looking around to make sure no one is listening) one of my favorite recordings of all time is Meatloaf's "Bat out of Hell". I think just about every song on it is fantastic!

.... and then there's Van Halen!!! You know, the only way I keep my sanity after reading the saaaammme booooook or hearing the saaaammmmme sooonnnngg 100 times is a story I heard at an Emergent Literacy workshop. A boy was born severly affected by Autism. Doctors told the family to unburden themselves and put him in a hospital to live out his life. The family wouldn't hear of it, and took the baby home. Everyone in the family read to him, talked to him, and treated him as normally as they could, within the limits of his Autism. This went on as he grew up. One day, he began to react to a particular book. It was his favorite, and he was able to communicate that! One day as he was being read to, a different book was chosen by whoever was reading to him, and he was able to push away the story he didn't want and gesture to the book he wanted. He grew up, overcame his handicap, and TEACHES at a college!!!! It was that same story, again & again, that helped him recognize, anticipate and communicate. His family's constant interaction helped him communicate with them. Of course, there was also professional help involved, but look what his family's loving care did for him! I put this theory to the test with a neighbor's baby. They were a young couple, and seemed uncomfortable talking to their baby. I noticed her eyes didn't really focus on anything, even when you talked to her, and she was over a month at this time. When they brought their three year old to Jeannie's birthday party, I jumped at the chance to hold the baby, and I spent three hours reading to her and singing to her, and talking to her like she was my age! Bless her heart, she focused on me the whole time! She smiled!! I gathered a bunch of books together for them to take home, but I don't know if they even got them out of the bag. So, I'll tolerate the same stuff 90 times, then I'll have to veg out on some Hair Bands- Motley Crue/Twisted Sister!
Becky, I use to teach Special Ed, and I've heard your story several times over the years with different names! I had one woman who sat down with me and said about her son, "He's my vegetable." Well, I was VERY offended that she would think of him that way, but then she went on to explain. The doctor had told her he would be nothing more than a "vegetable", etc. She refused to beleive the doctors, and her boy learned to do all kinds of things. So the comment was one of pride to her..."They said he's only be a vegetable, and see where he's at now!" Had another mom who was told the same thing. She left the doctor's office all upset and angry, only to return several years later when her "vegetable" actually RAN into the doctor's arms!!! As for my music....whenever I'd turn on "Meatloaf", by college boyfriend would always comment "Better look out! Jackie's in a 'heathen mood'!" (Keep in mind I grew up a good Baptist girl, LOL!)
Back when we first met, my husband was in to all that metal music, as well as hair bands. Some of it was henious, and I wasn't even saved then! One day God got fed up with that noise going into my husband's ears. My husband was living in Baltimore city, and one night someone broke the back window of the car, reached in and took the case of tapes he had. They left the new stereo, cb radio, radar detector, cigarrettes, and everything else. I believe there was something in particular God didn't want him to hear anymore, and after that, he didn't! My husband must have thought so too, because he didn't replace them!!
