Wow. So many levels of stupidity here and so little space to address them. This poor child broke his leg at school and got a concussion then had to crawl back to class where he had to stay until his mom picked him up and realized what had happened. http://www.suntimes.com/news/crime/...teacher-says-crawl-back-to-skokie-school.html
My first year of teaching, I had a second grade girl fall from a monkey bar that was at least 6 (probably more) feet off the ground. The veteran teachers just stood there and told her to get up and brush herself off and rolled their eyes when I went to help her. I helped her up but she was too dizzy to stand on her own because she had a concussion. I can totally see those teachers doing something like this...
This is incredibly sad. I think some teachers just get 'on their high horse" sometimes, or just don't want to address it because it means more paper work and hassle for them: They have to stop their lesson, can't continue because all the other kids are still fascinated by what happened so they arent paying a lick of attention, the teacher gets behind and then gets into trouble for it. When I was a sophomore in high school a boy poked me in the hip with a mechanical pencil, and my whole body turned except for my left knee on down, and I twisted my body to sit in the chair. I was crying in my math class and my teacher (who was an ex college professor) ignored me even when other students beough it up that i was crying saying, "She's alright." I walked the whole day on it, had my friends help me to and from my classes. When I got home I had to cut my jeans off because I couldn't get them off of my knee it had swollen so bad. Went to the ER, and I had torn my ligaments in my knee and ended up out of school for weeks.
A law suit like that happened in our area. The teachers union responded by telling all the teachers not to recertify their first aid - that way the wouldn't be liable for mistakes! Makes me ill! Anyone in the care of children should have the common sense to call an ambulance when a child is that injured. I know we all have had whining children around and wanted to ignore them, but before we say "suck it up" we check to see if they are actually hurt!!! Oh, and did you notice the affected family had an ethnic name - I'm sure their ethnic background didn't help the situation. Blah!
O.k. that is just strange and I find it somewhat fascinating although really sad for that poor little boy. I'm wondering if he often faked things or was dramatic and the teacher thought he was putting on a show. I really have a hard time that any normal adult could purposely do that to a child. That's when I start thinking someone is mentally sick. I suppose I will never know the answer but ,wow, yes, I'm glad I don't have to trust a bunch of strangers with my children.
I can also see this happening. And it will happen more and more. When I was a kid, we had a nurse in the schools. Now, there are more drugs in the schools, and the nurses in our large district gets about a half-day a week in the elementary school and maybe two or three half-days in the high schools. The drugs are being dispensed by teachers/secretaries. I'd guess that if there had been a nurse in the building this would never have happened.
This is shocking. Does it even cross their mind that this child is injured?? Are these people so burned out with children that they won't check on the boy? If you ARE around children enough , you learn what is 'bumped' hurt behavior, and what an actual injury looks like. Dizziness and can't walk is INJURY behavior!
HOly moly!! Are you serious?? They actually allowed him to CRAWL back to the class?? Just goes to show that the children don't really matter much.. It's all a job to this teacher.. I hope they pull her license!! She should NEVER be allowed to work around children again.. I wonder if she's a mother.. Is this how she treats her own children.. Good grief. someone needs to be spanked!!!!!!
You would think that as soon as the child started crawling, she would know that he was really injured. I know that some kids will make a big deal out of little injuries, especially at that age, but what could it hurt to treat them all with sympathy. At some point common sense should prevail and the teacher should realize that sometimes kids really do get seriously hurt. I would rather over-do some care giving when not needed than not care at all when it is really needed.
This was hard to read. I kept picturing my littlest one....I swear, I'm gunna have nightmares The things I would like to say...I can't post in this forum! Unreal!!!!
My oldest is nearly six and she can be a drama queen but it's obvious when she's truely hurt herself. A friends son broke his arm at kindy (3years old I think) and it took an hour for the teachers to call his mum. Mum walked in and saw his arm was obviously bent where there was no joint and was very swollen and hot. The teachers had given him a wet flannel.
