I would love to hear from some people whose HS'd kids are now in college. What curricula prepared them for college? What didn't? Especially in the subjects of science, math, writing, and lit. Thanks!
My daughter is 16, a junior this year. We've not done any "college preparedness", but she scored 31 (97th percentile) on her ACTs, and is receiving all kinds of college offers weekly. So I've no doubt she's "prepared". We plan on putting her in ECOT (Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow...public on-line school) for her Senior year, because then the she can take college classes free (including books!!!) during her Senior year.
That is very encouraging. Your daughter must be a whiz kid! That's super! Our son will be a freshman this fall, and we were planning to use Apologia for science through high school, but have read reviews by more than one person who said that curriculum did not prepare their student for college-level science classes. I just wondered if others on this web-site have found that to be true, for science and/or other subjects. We want to choose the curricula for h.s. that will best prepare him for college.
We used Apologia with Rachael. And Carl went to a workshop once (severaL years back) about just that topic. It said that Apologia was the best out there. So it depends on what you want. I don't think Rachael is a whiz. Just a determined young lady who is very academically oriented. Her 14yo sister.... Sigh.... That's another story! She's totally different, and has a completely different set of abilities!
