So good to have her home! Man, I'm gonna miss that kid. She goes back for real at the end of the month.

She LOVED orientation. Met lots of great kids, thinks her adviser is top notch, and loves the city of Ann Arbor. Had a ton of fun:)

AWESOME news on her placement tests! She tested out of first year Calculus and first year Chemistry:) She'd already tested out of most of her first year of Bio with her AP credit....just has to pick up a 2 credit lab for full credit for the whole first year sequence for her major.

She was feeling stressed last night when I talked to her cause she couldn't get the Calc 2 class she wanted, or the Bio lab she needed...classes filled up FAST!

BUT! She was staying up half the night worrying about it...watching the online registration...and by some amazing miracle....BOTH CLASSES had a cancellations in the wee hours of the morning and she was able to snatch them up! (they do registration online...and kids can drop/add online....so this can happen at any time of the day) Her adviser was really pleased for her...was quite a stroke of luck!

    So she ended up with:

    Calculus 2
First year Bio lab for her major
Latin (she was going to do American Sign Language, but switched to Latin)
Women's Studies (satisfies her history credit AND diversity credit)
    and UROP (undergraduate research opportunity)

So a total of 14 credits to get her feet wet. Perfect! She'll probably carry 16 or so, typically...but wanted to start with more wiggle room.

She's happy with everything...just really looking forward to school...feeling very positive and enthusiastic. I am so relieved it went so well for her.

Financial aid was also VERY encouraging. There are several Sophomore scholarships she'll be eligible for, and the Residency Aid position looks very hopeful, too. Financial aid told her that students with her grades who really beat the bushes for funding can usually get fully funded. She said she felt like a little fish in a small pond and wondered if this was really possible....and her adviser said (and I love this!) Yes, you're a little fish. But you're a good fish with a lot of talent. You're the type of fish we like to help succeed:)

Just feeling in a really good place about college today and thought I'd share:)

Also cool! Her last class on Friday ends at 3PM....in time to take two different trains out of town if she'd like to come home any weekend. First class on Monday doesn't start until 10AM, and there are plenty of trains on Sunday. Should work out great for visits home if she wants them!

So far, so good:) Crossing fingers for a good transition this fall. But yeah, it looks like we've got some nice options that I was afraid we wouldn't have.

Don't expect her to come home very often, but once in a while, it would be really nice to see her:)

Also great to know she'll be in some classes she enjoys that challenge her.

The encouraging news at Financial Aid was also welcome!

If any other moms have their kiddos running off to college this year, please feel free to PM me for mutual support this fall.

Being from central Ohio, I just can't resist......:lol::lol:

Why did the University of Michigan change from natural grass to artificial turf?

To keep the cheerleaders from grazing!

Do you know what the average Michigan player gets on his SAT?

    Drool!

What did the Michigan graduate say to the Ohio State graduate?

"Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?"

    Not much space though...LOL!!!
My mom won tickets at work & gave them to hubby & I. Best seats we had a concrete barrier as a back rest. Everyone who passed said what seats are those...those are the BEST...LOL!!!

    :p:p:p

I actually ushered for OSU when I was in high school with my Explorer Post, the year Archie Griffin won his second Heisman Trophy. We played Michigan at home that year (won, OF COURSE!!!), but I had to miss that game due to SATs :(. I remember (after an away Michigan game that determined us going to the Rose Bowl) going for pizza, walking down the middle of High Street (which was shut off), kicking a beer can along. ((I had told Mom we were going for pizza; I did NOT mention WHERE we were doing this; she NEVER would have let me go on Campus after a big game!!! But we were home before dark, which is when things get crazy).

No, I graduated from Bowling Green. Well, let me rephrase that! I graduated from BG, but didn't pass my Deaf student teaching (LONG story!!!). So I came home to central Ohio, and eventually took graduate classes at OSU to get my certification in Deaf Ed; later I went back and took graduate classes to get certified to teach Orthopedic/Health handicapped. But I wasn't working on a degree. Eventually, I talked with OSU about a MA in special needs preschool, but ended up getting married instead. So yeah, I've taken classes there, but no degree.

As a kid, we would get together at my aunt's house every New Year's Day to watch the Big Ten lose the Rose Bowl. My very mild-mannered grandmother would sit there, cursing Woody Hayes for passing the ball ("When you pass the ball, one of three things can happen, and two of them are BAD!!!"). So I grew up on OSU football.

I have never been to a football game in my life. Save a couple at high school, and I was only there at halftime to see a guy I was dating...IN THE BAND. LOL.

Have been to some other events at The Big House, though...and was amazed at the size! Did you know it's the largest football arena in the US and third biggest in the world? Quite a place!

Have been encouraging Elle to go to at least one football game while she's there, but she rolls her eyes at me. Apparently, I didn't raise a sports person! LOL. I'm guessing she'll get curious and go at some point with all the crazy enthusiasm about it around her.

Nice it has some cool memories for you, Jackie. Do you still go to Ohio football games?

No. Like I said, I went when I was in High School. At that point, the scouts were ushering. There were four female Explorer Scouts, which is officially a branch of the Boy Scout. They put all the Girl Scouts in one section together, but us four got put with the Boy Scouts. Boy, we had a blast!!! I've been to maybe two games since then, none since I've been married. Tickets are expensive, and you really need a connection to get them. My dad's ushered the past few years, but is giving it up this year. It's getting too much for him, especially night games.

I was SO excited to go to a BG football game...my first game AS A STUDENT!!! And after being in the Shoe, I found it incredibly BORING!!! No one seemed to care. Someone suggested going to a hockey game instead. HOCKEY!!! REALLY??? Boy, I learned real fast! Hockey is THE GAME in Bowling Green! We won the NCAA tournament while I was there...in FOUR overtimes, against Minnesota Duluth at Lake Placid. But Carl isn't a sports fan at all, so I don't follow anything now. (Though a friend gave us Blue Jacket tickets last year, and I was yelling as if I was still a kid, lol!) My sports kick comes from watching Rachael and Phillip play soccer. The past two years Rachael was in Dayton, and Phillip quit soccer. He's starting up again this year (with Rachael's old coach, who knows him because he use to go to her practices), and I'm so excited for it to start up again. First practice is this Thursday!!!

Just cause Carl isn't into sports...doesn't mean you shouldn't be. Sounds like you really enjoy it! Maybe start taking your dad to some games? Bet it would be nice to just enjoy a game and not be working. Sounds like it's something wonderful you can share:)

Glad you'll get your fix as a soccer mom again soon. LOL.

Personally, I'm with Carl. LOL! Never met a sport I liked overly....except figure skating and hunt seat horse riding.

Nah. Tickets are too expensive. Now, Phillip and I will watch a game every now and then on TV...he learned what it meant to "sack the quarterback" watching OSU cream Michigan (h-hem!) a few years back when his mom suddenly jumped up yelling "SACK HIM!!! SACK HIM!!!" :D!

And that's fine. There's no team I "follow", so watching a game doesn't have the same feel.
