Ya know what? Let's stir up some real controversy - I vote Gene Simmons to do the next guest spot in full Kiss makeup!

EXACTLY what I was thinking...just better said. ;) Katy Perry is an ENTERTAINER, like it or not, and it's not her job to guess what is and isn't appropriate for a preschool show. She accepted the role and damn her, she ASSUMED they knew what was right for wardrobe for the type of program she was on. HOW DARE SHE!!!

Yep, you got it. Sesame Street wrote the script, designed the sets, added the computer animation. All Katy Perry did was shown up to sing a song. That's why I found the moral of the video worse than the outfit. The outfit to me was ugly. But then I'm not inclined to like burn-your-eyes-out neon green.
I've seen outfits that skimpy on figure skaters at the Olympics and ice skating shows. And those are usually prime time with the whole family is watching.
MonkeyMamma- I think the Muppets (which were the grown up offshoot of Sesame Street) already tried the full-makeup effect with Alice Cooper back in the late 70's.

That was my point in my post. I think SS should have the good sense to dress her in a way that was appropriate or stand by their show. I can't see how she is to blame at all. Besides, that was one of the best performances on SS I've seen...well..I don't watch it really but the reason I don't is mostly because I can't stand it. LOL.

    Betty White is hysterical!

Hey what about Twisted Sister? Wait...you could invite Marylin Manson...YIKES!

Ya know...I am not sure but I am almost positive I saw ZZ Top on a kid's show.

That weird kid show...Yo Gabba Gabba has celebs all the time also. Maybe Katy Perry should try there next. lol

    Amen again! :D

And I agree...her dress was WAY too provacative.

I will post this here as I did in another thread though while I am on the subject....on a side note, Katy Perry use to be a Christian recording artist...most people don't know that. ;)

I think I'll wear something provacative later, and blame Katy Perry.

I don't care who picked out what she wore. She could have refused. She may have not done the show at that point, but she could have refused. I'm steppeing out of this now.

She could have refused and SS could have remembered the base audience. However, I feel the blame is more on SS. As far as Katy Perry, that's the most covered up she's been in years. lol. She probably figured it was appropriate preschool viewing wear. lol. Also, if I were to go on a show and presented a costume I would assume it was approved...so if I personally didn't have a problem with it I wouldn't question it

At any rate, as much activity as this thread as seen I doubt anyone really sees this as a big issue. I think it's kinda fun.

I am pretty conservative (skirt wearing) when it comes to dress, but I didnt actually find her outfit that shocking. It struck me as sort of tinkerbell fairy look they were going for? However, I find Katy Perry nasty. It only takes one song like "Kissed a Girl" to turn me off of a singer. Yeah it elliminates alot of secular music for us, but I would rather not expose my children to that kind of stuff anyways.

I agree Katy Perry is rather nasty. Even my 12 year old finds her extremely distasteful. Based on how my 12 year old views her she didn't think Katy Perry should have been on SS at all. We hardly listen to secular music. I know exactly where you are coming from. However, I still a better choice could have been made for the dress. If I saw her on TV wearing that in a kid show I would have thought it a bit odd. But I would NOT have known it was her. Didn't know her until this thread. I only knew one song but had no clue who sang it. lol.

Now, I really didn't care she was on the show and think she did a good job. The way I it is my 2 and 5 year old have no clue who she is and seeing her for 3 minutes on SS (if we watched...but we don't) would not introduce them to her or her persona.

Ok with all I have said and my opinions I have given I do think she is rather nasty. My kids don't really like her or listen to her music at all. I think she sings well and I thought the skit was cute but I don't really like her. I do however find her fiance HILLARIOUS although nasty himself.
