which was too American, and that is the second time I have heard that phrase from someone from Austrailia, its funny to me.
maybe becasue I don't understand what it means? lol

I wanted to add to this that I am seriously curious not meaning to sound rude or anything, just curious as I know different countries have different sayings and stuff like that. Ways of wording things in oz is different than here. Also I am wondering what part was too american?
It is interesting that we have such different views of the world and its history. if thats what you mean?

Too much American history, not enough world history, that's all. We tend to do a much broader based history focus, even in the state school system. It's not a put down of you guys but it tends to make the curriculum irrelevant

I understand EXACTLY, Rose!!! I've been discussing that very thing with my dh recently, since we're doing U.S. History. Here in the States, we study World History up through the Renaisance. Then, when you get to all the explorers, you are suddenly back to U.S. History. I never had a grasp of World History AFTER the 1600's. That's why I like these books by Genevieve Foster. It tells you, in a readable style, what was going on ALL OVER the world during the life of a particular person.

    TeacherMom,
Yes, I am using the BF guide with EAH. I am just going to be using the books I can find at the library-I believe they have about all of them. We will do the lessons up to the Bf book, then stop and do the book and study guide questions till that book is through, then pick back up with EAH. Does that make sense? I think I am going to enjoy this curriculum as much as my daughter!

    Clarynda--EAH is what again?

Celtic, no offence taken, I was just curious, and I agree, I was thinking this one was more broad than the other ones I had been looking at actually. Because it does go around to different parts of the world for history other than just us.
What are your opinons on the US and World HIstory BF has out? Does it cover the world stuff that goes on during our history well?
Having done my main school years in Canada I have a wider view than I could have had, but I want my kids to know about what was going on all over the world, not just here.
When Life Paks had my kids study Austrailia I found we had a limited amount of knowledge, also found that a lot of the educational formats stem from US, so ....... is it hard for you to find curriculum from your own country?
I am just curious, those of you in other countries, what types of work do you do?
What is required of you... Hmmm I am highjacking my own thread, maybe someone could start a new one that says International students Lessons? I think there are several from other nations than ours and that would be so educational for us all!

yep, but if you think of the fact it is three classes in one it is easier to bite, dh was the one who said it did not matter what cost I had if its what I want to use this year, then he looked at it and said he liked it for teaching, and then I stressed over cost, and he said no, dont take that into account!
Personally I don't know how NOT to , they tell me I have a poverty mentality, from growing up with low $. I know how to stretch a dollar, and so I feel like I am being frivolous !
We are checkign Ebay and such for a used copy as well, since its not the kind you write in! Who knows, Pray we find one cause we are wokrign to order this week!
    Weee!

Also, I plan on using it (eventually) with three kids. So the cost is an investment!

BF? Sorry, I'm either having a blonde moment or I'm just ignorant. Super tired & non~functioning, anyway. I don't know of a good Australian curriculum. We do a lot of European history & a bit about Asia (which is at least sensible) & nothing on America. The little I know I gleaned by default from tv so a curriculum heavily biased towards American history would make transitioning into regular school a bit difficult. (Not that we're planning on doing that, just that in a general way we follow the state guidelines.) As so much curriculum has come from the States it can be really difficult with even simple things like spelling & grammar differences & I am scratching my head as to how we deal with history for the next 4 years. I don't want to do 12 months of American history & frankly you can put all you need to know about Australian history on the back of a postage stamp. Not very patriotic of me but it is insufferably dull & the general aspects can be covered quite quickly. I like your idea of an international thread.

well, doing British and Scandanavian history would bring you to your roots, if you went that way... So you could do the british isles if you have not yet, ( I know its called the UK now hahah)
And maybe how Austrailia has influenced other parts of the world?
differnt sports that are in Austrailia, or come from there?
What types of arts are there in Austrailia that are original to its country? ANd then geography? What of that?
THese are just ideas, not sure how long you could stretch it... but y ou could try African History, or Russian? Something different maybe as an additive?

I am making sure I at least do what my counter part public school would do and then adding to it here too, because you never know what the world may throw at you and if your kid will have to go out to school at ps.
So I think its a good plan.

Because my daughters primary interst is in art & music we're going round the world doing the history of... you guessed it, art & music! lol. I am trying to get in a good general overview of each continent in there too but she's fairly resistant to learning just because... We are in Asia & Europe at present & I am hoping that will take us through to the end of next year. At least. I can see us circling round & round with those two just because there is so much diversity in there. It is not very traditional but my child is heavily geared towards the fine arts & it is getting much harder as she gets older to get her interested in anything else. She would happily do music & art all day every day & be quite illiterate about everything else. I happen to think history is essential & I am still steering this ship soooo...

With Australian stuff so much European history is our base ~ even things like our national sport (Aussie Rules) comes from Gaelic football. Art trends arrived here late & many of our artists relocated in Europe. Sad but true.

OH cool hey, you may like the Beautiful feet series!
it has an art history thing.. it looked like it was all art, since most of our artists came from the other side of the world from me!
IT looked good to me, but what do I know?

We made our final choice too. Now I have to remember what site said it had a 2 week wait on mailing. I don't want to wait that long. I think it might have been CBD? Or Rainbow Resource. Can't find it on ebay, half.com, amazon or vegsource. Guess we're paying full price. Oh well. HOping for the best with this program. Our kids will have to talk to each other if they have problems.

I know some of them had a wait because they were out of stock, and all, we hunted around, dh did more hunting on his own and found me my stuff.. we are waiting till next week to find out about one package , will save us a good bunch of cash if we get it!

But we are definately doing the EWH, and adding in some books and organization skills from BF, from the two sample pages I got haha!
uh..... I also got books for ds to read along with his little CLP Exploring American History book. I got to hold one of those in my hand, and decided it was better than the A Child's story of America as the chapter that deals with our modern presidents has subjects my gonna be 10 on Monday son does not need to know about... re clinton mostly I was shocked to find it in a child's book!
Also I posted a list of boks that BF uses , Lampost has it, I think thats what its called?

Oh, yes, I looked at this & was impressed but double the price for Aussie dollars & beyond my budget. If I can find an Oz supplier I am considering getting at least some of the books or trying the library. DD is past the colouring in stage.

We dont' have ours yet either. We're starting with mesopotamia and other ancient civilizations (I just posted them in another thread) and then doing Ancient Egypt. DD is going to read Epic of Gilgamesh for World Lit.
