I think the website wiill explain it. If you have any questions after you look there, let me know. I don't know a whole lot about it, but I know it stemmed from a story book....

I'm sorry, I should have explained what this is.

Flat Stanley is a book by Jeff Brown. It's about a boy who gets flattened- but not hurt- by a bulletin board in his room. One of the things he does in the book is get mailed to California to see a friend.

This ends up being a geography lesson. You send your own Flat Stanley to people you know around the country. You could also just send it to family and just have them help you. You have the person take Stanley to a prominent place in their community and take his picture. They also write you a little info on it. They send Stanley back and you can send him on to someone else. You note on a map where he's been.

Jeannie made a crab, because we are from Maryland. Her crab is named Jessica! Deena sent around a dog named Chinook, if I remember right. It can be a fun thing if everyone remembers to return your 'stanley'.

So, it's like this- I'd send you Jessica Crab. You'd roll her around your town and find a monument or some other thing special in your community. Take her picture there, write us a small thing about what's in the picture, then send her back to us.

    Any takers? She won't pinch..

Flat Stanley is really fun. Both my dc did that when they were in ps. It was fun seeing the pictures and hearing all the stories of what they "did" with Flat Stanley.

We'll do that too, Becky. Last time we got a flat stanley, it was the end of December. My boys needed a haircut, so we took stanley along, and the lady sat him in a chair and put the cape-thing around him, and I took a picture of him "getting a haircut". Then it snowed, so I made him a snow suit (construction paper), and my boys made a tiny snowman, and we sat stanley next to it and took a picture. The last thing was New Years Eve. We made a pointy party hat for him and a balloon (made out of construction paper), and took a picture of him in front of the tv screen that was showing the countdown from the Space Needle in Seattle. It was fun! :D

So, creative ideas are fun too, as long as you're showing part of some landmark or something near you/talk about your town.

Friends of ours did this last year with their nephew. Since they are RVers too they took Stanley everywhere they went for a while. Stanley had a lot of fun and visited many places.

    This is a fun activity.

Becky, The Flat Stanley I got was sent from person to person, like Chinook was. She had a list in the folder he came in, and youjust send it to the next person... SO that's a thought if you can't get her to make any more! :)
