Here is one from HSLDA about the Swedish boy. http://www.hslda.org/hs/international/Sweden/200909160.asp

    Here's another one: http://www.nkmr.org/english/dominic_johansson_case_home-schooled_boy_snatched_from_plane.htm

Do a search on the boy's name, and you'll get PLENTY of information!

I never said that a country has used the Rights of the Child to prohibit homeschooling, but I believe that it CAN be used in such a way. The writers of this treaty believes in a "nanny state". They do not trust parents to make wise decisions regarding their children. It's up to the government to protect children (ALL children!!!) from the adults that God has placed in their lives to guide and protect them.

Okay, it is a different family. That makes sense. I thought you all were talking about the German family only.

I see the Convention differently. Children in the USA have it easy and I don't think life would change much for kids here, but the poverty and lack of education and basic necessities for children around the world is a real problem. The Convention states in many places about the parent's rights to raise their children.

No. Amie asked, and I said that family was from Sweden.

Then why do we need to sign it if our kids have it so well? It would then OVERIDE our Constitution. I don't want laws for this country being dictated by those OUTSIDE this country. And I simply don't trust the U.N. AT ALL.

This came from Wikipedia... People who qualify for asylum are those who can show that they might be treated badly in their own country because of their
    Race
    Nationality
    religion
    political opinions
membership of particular social group or social activities.. http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_asylum

If they could possibly have their children taken from them because they feel they should homeschool them verses placing them in a gov't run school for religious beliefs , I would think that falls under political opinions as well as religion.. ????

It was my impression that the German family had been given asylum, then it was revoked after they have been in this country for years and have purchased a farm in TN.
