I really, literally just want to scream and pull my hair out!!! What was it, awhile ago a poor little deaf boy named "Gunner" was no longer allowed to sign his name because it vaguely resembled a gun beign fired. For $!&*% sake!!! AHHHHH!!!! Our school systems are so messed up it isn't even funny. I think we need to realize in a sense that kids are going to be interested in guns especially boys. It's built into their DNA in a way!! If my boys didn't play with nerf guns I think they'd die! We all just need to lighten the crap up! Sheesh.

There is just no common sense left in "the system."

    None at all.

When I was teaching PreK, my class was walking in line down the hall. Another teacher passing by noticed one of my boys "sneaking" down the hall on tiptoe, holding his hands together like a gun in front of him. Periodically, he would jump out to the side and "shoot" his pretend gun. That lady went nuts. She pulled him out of line and brought him to me telling me there was a "zero tolerance" policy for gun play and I needed to take him to the office and call his parents (he was 4!). I asked him what he was shooting at and he said "I'm hunting bears." She was angry that I refused to take him to the office.
I just don't know where the common sense has gone!

Sigh.... I had a student in a wheelchair who brought a water pistol (that looked like a water pistol) to school in his backpack. Knowing my student's family situation, I assumed his older brothers had put it there when they were outside playing the night before, and it didn't get removed. I wrote Mom a note, asking her to take it out and please make sure it didn't get returned because of the "zero tolerance" policy. She did, and that was the end of it. But you know, I could possibly have been fired for not reporting it!
