After a lot of soul searching I've decided I'm going to do this and I'm going to start on Monday. I've worked up a tentative schedule and ordered some supplies so wish us luck
Good luck!!! I really do think you will find it to be easier than you are thinking it might be. My son has no idea what it is like to go to ps and I don't plan on sending him anytime soon. If he wants to venture off to highschool..c-ya. I joke with dh and say..."I know it's the right thing to do with ds#1 but...ds#2....can we afford boarding school?" ROFL I really have enjoyed it and it has really become a hobby for me to learn about things. We started our worm *theme& yesterday. He colored a worm puzzle then cut it out and then reassembled and glued it on black paper - great skill building. Then we painted with plastic fishing worms. It was totally silly and we got paint all over our fingers, which is a huge feat for ds. He has to have clean hands! I need to get to the candy store and get us some gummy worms for next week. It's so fun and you will find that at first you have absolute nothing and you feel like....ugh how will I manage. Then the next thing you know you have so many ideas coming out of your butt that you can't possibly do them all. ROFL My motto...stay one step ahead of them. Yesterday at Sams Club I picked up a McGraw Hill 2nd grade workbook. Ds says "2nd grade I can't do that" hummm so...I turned to the first page and said "read the directions" he did then he orally answered the questions. So...we bought the book. Who was it that posted about being a curriculum junkie? It's just sooo much fun. Heather your kids are YOUNG don't worry so much about a schedule. At this stage let them lead a little bit. I use to ask ds if he wanted to do a craft - but I'd have a craft picked out for when he said yes. I then learned to have several crafts ready to go because he'd say "let's do a craft" and I wouldn't be prepared. It really does get easier. I remember in the beginning talking with TinaTX and saying "my gosh you are just sooo creative. Were you always this good?" She would then crack up laughing and say "no". I get it now - this development just sort of happens and....vola! Alrighty...long winded again.....
LOL Sheila there have been a couple of times when boarding school sounded good to me I agree totaly with letting them take the lead, I made up a schedule more so to keep me on track until we find our groove. I plan to do mostly thematic stuff that the boys are interested in. Like right now trucks and cars are HUGE in our house, so I'd like to put together some fun crafts and activities for that. Just a funny side note off topic, but my kids are addicted to "This Old House" and "New Yankee Workshop" on PBS. Everytime they see it they jump up and down and yell "Norm".......LOL Their dad is a remodeling contractor so that's where they got hooked. It's the funniest thing I've thought about taking pictures of their block buildings that they make and sending them to Norm to see if he would write the boys back. They go crazy over getting mail
