Woohoo!!! That is a positive step in the right direction. How quick can he change the law to read clearly....at least in VA, the Homeschool statute is pretty clear (although maybe vague to some situations), it's definitely something I can live with. Rhonda C
A lot of homeschoolers around here have been talking about fighting this how ever we need to. What they are saying is that there are many of us and they are ready to do what it takes even if it means sitting on the steps of the Supreme Court to do so.
I am glad to hear this. I have always liked Arnold even if I don't agree with some of his policies. I am glad to hear that he is open to alternative education. I hope he can change the laws in CA to state more clearly exactly what rights homeschooling families have. I would love to see this ruling get overturned.
I am sooooo grateful for the Texas state laws. The state has no record of my children. To tell them that they would HAVE to go to school....They will have to find us, first!
I hear you Jen! In California, each district is given a list of all the children within each individual district, whether in public school or homeschooled. This is what makes it so easy for the police or SS to come knocking on our door.
Yea, I'll head back up to the Appalachian mountains with my old relatives... WHooo Hooo Cornbread and beans! My Favs! (Seriously, I would love that anyway!( hahaha!
Ahhhh, sittin' on the front porch in a rocker listenin' to the crickets while learnin' about nature. Sounds great to me!
It's kind of like that in GA too. I have to file a form at the beginning of each year to declare that we are going to homeschool so they do have a record of the kids, and I have to send attendance, but for the most part they don't bother me and want nothing to do with me and I like it that way.
Same here, All we have to do (so far) is to file an intent to homeschool form by April of every year. As long as we do that, we don't have to tell the public school here , anything. Do any of you have testing in your state? Here in NM, there is none. I'm kind of surprised, being that the public schools here hate the idea of homeschooling. More like they hate losing the money , I think. You would think they want to make sure our kids are up to par, but we don't have to test. Fine with me. How about all of you? Are you required to have your kids tested? Blessings, Dianna
No testing, no sign ups, no nothin..... God Bless Texas! And Oklahoma, and a handfull of other WONDERFULY free states! They can use US as their basis for unregulated homeschooler states for sure!
In NY we have testing. It is every other year from 4th-8th (I think those are the grades but I have not done elementary yet just high school) and then every year for 9-12. It is really not a hugh deal and I use it as a tool to see where sd needs help for the next year. You can either do it with someone who is certified by the testing organization or the school districts will provide it. We have done it through the school district since they pay for it. Next year we might do it through our co-op.
No sign ups (letter of intent or otherwise) No testing I do have to keep records, but they are only checked if I end up before a judge for some other reason. So really, the state has no idea that my children exist, either.
hehe Jen Thats about how it is here even if people got a hold of our address if they googled it they would be in la la land instead. Sam
Ohio has more laws about homeschooling but nothing I can complain about so far. I do wish we were as free as Texas and Michigan though. I am happy to hear Arnold stand up for parental rights! I was sure he would have agreed with the decision.
So glad to hear that Governor S. supports parents' right to hs! We have to test yearly starting at age 7 in MN, but do not have to show results. So in other words, how would any one know if I really tested my kids? Guess its an honor system type of thing.
