My dd is in 6th grade and I thought it might be time to change our grading scale. Do all of you do this? Can anyone tell me what the grade scale is for junior high and up? We have been using: 90-100 =A / 80-89 =B and so forth.

    TIA,
    LisaM

It varies. Some schools do the 10-point scale while others do an 8-point scale. Personally, I feel the 10-point is easier to deal with, though you might have to work harder for the grade with the 8-point.

I have one of those EZ Grader wheels. It makes grading easy if you need it. It was under $4 at my local teaching store. :D

    Thanks Tammy

For the tip. I finally have gotten a hold of her evaluator, and she gave me the new grading scale for my daughters grade level. I tell ya, it's not very student friendly. I'm not sure exactly what kids in ps/6th grade are being graded by, but if it's this one... they're in for some trouble. My daughters grades have dropped a mite lately.

    LisaM,
Did your evaluator mention implementing the new grading scale  ? My sister teachers in ps. She often lets the student(s) re-submit the paper(s) for a higher grade after corrections have been made. There are also re-test and extra credit. Just a thought.
I'm trying these with my dd. She hates to get anything under an A. She even pulls out the EZgrader and figures the grades out herself

    Hi Tammy,

At times, I will let her redo her work so to be able to make a better grade.
I'm not going with this new grade scale. I was wondering why her evaluator kept saying, " the one I like is" . I started thinking what does she mean the one she likes. So, I started searching online last night for the grade scale for Florida schools. I found the old one I had been using was the new one. It seems our Governor passed a new grade scale in 2002, so our state will be more like other states in grading students work. The one her evaluator likes is the old one and it's tuff. If the one i'm using is what public school uses, then i'm sticking with it.

    LisaM,

Lucky for your dd you did your research here :D Thanks for getting me thinking about this. Next year we need to begin keeping official grades here too. I'll pay special attention to the state requirements. :D
