Hi everyone I am Ranchermom aka Sam from south Texas. I live on a small 15 acre pecan farm of 60 trees with our sheep, chickens, rabbits etc...and all our pets

I am a home school veteran of 8yrs and I home school my daughter of 14yr and my son of 6yr. My husband works in the computer field in the city of San Antonio.

I love working on my frugal website I am an Owner of a large Geography Postcard yahoo group and occasionally I work as a free lance writer writing homeschool articles when I find the time from my busy home schedule.

We work a lot with videos and a lot of online stuff for our Curriculum occasionally I like the Abeka stuff. I adore unit studies.

Thats about it for now I am currently looking for a new homeschool forum home since my old one of 3yrs is closing down :(

    See you on the forums

    Sam

Help: I was trying to add my own avatar but I dont see where I can do it at in the "edit avatar" do you have to be a member for a longer period to do that or is it even allowed your own avatar?

HI and Welcome! You have found a great forum here. I am Leslie and I have a ds11 (12 next week) and dd10. We are in our 2nd yr of hs. We really like it, however, we are still trying to find that perfect thing that works best for us with curriculum!

    Hope you enjoy it here!

OH btw, I think you do have to have so many posts to be able to change your avatar (?) Not exactly sure on that, but I know it is close! :)

    Hello and welcome.
MY name is Patty and I homeschool my daughter Emma. We are working on our fourth year.
We have 40 fruit and nut trees!
I am glad to get to know another tree fan!:D
We use to have a sheep, pig, ducks, goats and around a hundred chickens. Once my husband became ill, we got ride of everything except a few chickens and our dogs and cat.
Ems is supposed to get a horse, but we are not sure anymore because our zoning has changed.
I grew up with many animals and my dad would slaughter them for food.
I really enjoy horticulture and agriculture. I am glad you joined us!!
    Patty

I have offered my services to anyone here (Free, of course) to help with cropping, compressing and help with posting avatars, so if you need any help, just ask!

WELCOME!!! I am also in my 8th year. My kids are DD12, DD10, and DS7. Plus my little brother lives in Boerne, whick I figure has to be SOMEWHERE near you! I've never been there, but I HAVE visited when he was living in San Antonio proper! I really enjoyed the River Walk. Someday we're going to take our trailer down there and visit.

We grow Pistachios and Almonds. I thought we had Walnuts too, but according to my list, we do not. I better get some out there!
We grow more fruit then nut trees. We are raising:

    Strawberry Free-Peach
    Rio Oso Gem-Peach
    Reliance Peach
An unknown peach, it is huge and delicious!
    Royal Apricot
    Blenhiem Apricot
    Plumcot
    Goldmine Nectarine
    Comic Pear
    Bosc Pear
    Yellow Delicious Apple
    Gala Apple
    Granny Smith Apple
    Santa-Rosa Plum
    Stella Cherry

We have a few of each tree, some we have one.

We also have a few grafted fruit trees that actually gave fruit last year for the first time. We were not sure if they would take, but they did!!!:p

    This is so much fun!!!

That is so neat, Patty. Do you sell the fruit from the trees or do you keep it all? I think that would be so cool to have all those fruit bearing trees.

Patty impressive! I wish I could name all our fruit trees we won them at a local auction and a few I planted on and off.

I think we have Giant Peaches, plums, apricot, apples, oranges, pear, lime tree, avacado tree, three small dwarfs that are a mixture of different fruit but we have no idea what yet hahaha they are all small and the only thing that gives so far is the oranges and the peaches.

We grow pecans out here so if you like pecans and ever want to trade :) I love!!!! Pistachios and Almonds hehe I traded one year for black walnuts but that was before I knew what black walnuts were I couldnt crack them hehe that was so funny I was thinking they were some of those nice little calif walnuts.

Jennifer your welcome to join the postcard group and anyone else we have been doing it for years now my daughter and I and we still havent gotten the same card twice yet although we did get 6 different sun flower cards from Kansas once hehe. I once waited 6 months for a postcard from Russia from a family that was missionarys there talk about slow mail :)

Welcome to the Homeschool Spot, Ranchermom! We had a friend in Ohio who had a black walnut tree.. They would double bag them in garbage bags, take them to the driveway and run over them with their car a few times. (That was the Eischens, Jackie, and you know how big their "boat" was!) It worked great!!

    Hi Ranchermom/Sam, WELCOME!

I homeschool my 3: ds15, ds13 and dd9, and we LOVE it! This is our 9th year already---time surely does fly!

I used to live in Southern California. We had one Almond tree in our front yard, and one orange tree in our backyard, and every year those things grew to being overloaded, and we did nothing for them! Must've been just the right climate for them!
