I know we had a post about this not long ago...

We're doing American History this year, Native Americans - the Civil War. DS is going into 2nd and is reading on a 2nd grade level, so I'm looking for books on that level. It takes us about 2 - 3 weeks to read a book depending on the size of the book, hopefully he will start reading fast this year but I'm not counting on it LOL

    So far I have

    The Magic Treehouse Series:

Buffalo Before Breakfast (Great Plains Indians)

    Vikings Ships at Sunrise (Vikings)

    Thanksgiving on Thursday (Pilgrims/Thanksgiving)

    Revolutionary War on Wednesday (Revolution)

Civil War on Sunday (Civil War)

Little House in the Big Woods (Pioneers)

So that covers about 10 weeks... any other suggestions?

I was thinking the American Girl series but would that be ok for a 7/8 yr old boy?

I think the American Girl series would be just fine for a boy.

It's been some time since my kids were this young. Maybe some of these books will do.

    George Washington's Teeth/by Deborah Chandra
Mr. Revere and I /by Robert Lawson
Sam The Minuteman /by Nathaniel Benchley
The Golly Sisters Go West /by Betsy Byars
    Johnny Tremain /by Esther Forbes
Abraham Lincoln / by Augusta Stevenson(chapter book)
Farmer Boy /by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Keep The Lights Burning, Abby /by Peter/Connie Roop

I liked the Orphan Train books...but those might be more like 10 yrs old or something. But you can check them out if you like.

I'll tell ya what I did...I checked out www.sonlight.com Core Series - they list out ALL of their readers and read-alouds...then I went an picked out what would fit with what era, etc.

ALSO...if you google "Juvenile Historical Fiction 2nd Grade" you will get TONS of links to places that have lists of stuff.

I found a lot of neat, neat books from that!
