Can anyone give me some ideas. I want to make some home made gifts for this holiday season. I'd like to pass on the bakes goods. Cause not alot of people in our family eat sweets. Any help would be great!
We give Chex Mix. Easy to do in the micro and it isn't sweet. Also, you can do an online search for gifts in a jar - soup mixes, ect. You layer the ingredients in a jar and they are really pretty. Our family alway appreciates photographs....I've done little 5x7 scrapbooks or framed a really cute picture in a nice frame. Great for grandparents or I've done them of my nieces and nephews for my sister, ect. Have fun!
There is a very easy recipe for peanuts that a lady at our church makes, but they are sweet. Let me know if you want the recipe and I will get it to you.
Homemade soap, lap quilts if you have the time(rag quilts are pretty fast), coffee cups with home made hot cocoa mix or some kind of coffee.... I will do some more thinking and try to post some other ideas later
You could paint rocks for cute little pets, or paint several to look like dominos and give as a whole family gift.... Aprons, little purses made out of jeans for little girls. Homemade stuffed animals....
My mom crochet's and I do too, and she makes name doily's and I make dolls. You could easily make a really nice teddy bear. Cut a pattern (gingerbread-man-esque) on some nice looking fabric, sew together, stuff and voila! You have a great little teddy bear for a child (works nice for the younger tots and small children).
We've done a lot of homemade gifts, mostly food related LOL We do homemade hot chocolate mix, put it in a canning jar and put a scrap of fabric over the lid and tie with a pretty ribbon. (allrecipes.com) Friendship Soup Mix in a jar - it's a really pretty layered soup mix you put in a quart sized canning jar. Same as above, put pretty fabric over the lid and secure with ribbon. (allrecipes.com) Brownies or Cookies in a jar - all the ingredients layered, and same as above for topping the jar. (allrecipes.com) Also, I like to do Muddie Buddies and put in pretty plastic bags with ribbon. OR, I get dollar store mugs and put a bag full of the muddie buddies in there. Coffee spoons. Get the nice sturdy plastic spoons and coat them in milk chocolate, semi sweet chocolate or white chocolate. Let them dry and put the little bags over top (like a lollipop bag from craft stores). These are neat to stir into coffee and make the coffee a mocha or what ever. We've even done them where you put a dollup of fluff on the spoon, freeze it, then dip in the chocolate. Makes a great hot chocolate spoon! If you do that, you do have to double dip the spoon so you get enough chocolate to stir into hot milk and make hot chocolate. Non food items, we've bought cheap white mugs from the dollar store and porcelin pens from the craft store and decorated mugs for everyone (we gave them with a little bit of the hot cocoa mix in a bag inside). We've made glass ornament. You get the hollow glass ornaments and red, green and white acrylic paint. You aslo get micro glitter. Basically, you mix glue with water to a very thin mix. Then put a little bit of the glue inside, and the micro glitter. Then you swirl the glue and micro glitter around on the inside. Let that dry for a while. Then add a stripe of the paints, shake, swirl, mix, etc.....drain these well and let them dry really well before putting the caps on - then tie a pretty ribbon around the cap. They look all marbled and swirly....really pretty!!! Jewelry, ornaments, etc. The list goes on!!! Google "homemade gifts" and see what you come up with.
wait, a couple of years ago there were some instructions for TILES, I never made them so someone else will have to post the instructions. Fleece throws or pillows Gifts in a Jar (I am making some soup ones up for my dad and a friend that is diabetic. Clear Glass Balls-- at the craft store they have the balls and other shapes like cubes and other ones.... you can do so much with them, I like putting foil ribbon curled, it looks neat inside. Photo albums (watch for sales to get them half off at various places like Walgreens or Snapfish) or calanders
Going on the decorated mug Idea...... I sure wish I had some of that Russian tea. that would make a good gift too. I hit a homerun today with a gift for my father-in-law's 83 birthday. I am so thrilled because he is the best fil you could ask for and so sweet and humble. Today is his birthday and he came for a little family birthday party. He and my husband bought a very old Farmall cub tractor and are just beginning to restore it. I had made several pictures of it because they want to keep a record in photos as they work on it. This is a huge deal to my fil because he has always wanted a tractor. So I picked out a frame that held several pictures and printed an assortment of my husband and his dad with the tractor and framed them for my fil's birthday today. He was so pleased with it and just kept looking at it. I plan to get one of those digital frames and when this tractor is finished (maybe next year?) I will put all the pictures together for him to keep. I love pictures so I was so happy that I was able to surprise Freddy and his daddy with this today!
Here's the link to the thread ABall mentioned..... http://www.homeschoolspot.com/showthread.php?t=14171 The thread is about 15 pages long.........post, by Angie, is #90 "Christmas Tile Coasters" with pictures. Lots of other GREAT ideas in there!
I'm helping the kids make soap and lotion pumps. We will be using masson jars. You just punch a hole in the top. Fill with your favorite smelling lotion or soap. Then put a pump in. The pumps are under a dollar each. Then you could tie pretty ribbon around it. I'm excited to make some for my home as well!!
I've been webstalking (to a very minor degree, which I need to double effort concerning) for homemade, non-food ideas also.... Magnetic Paper Dolls The Crafty Crow has tons of ideas. Mothering magazine had a contest for homemade gift ideas. ...and I'm betting I have more somewhere, but that's all I could see at the moment. I'll be back!
Whole-ly crafting jackpot, Batman!!!!! (hahaha... whole-ly... that's funny.) I don't think I'll need to look any further. 100 Days of Homemade Christmas Gifts
