"Well...well..FINE if you don't wanna come to OUR school then you can...uuhhh....NOT play sports! Yea! yea, that'll change your mind!"

Poppycock and hogwash. That's all it is. Just another way to con and bully parents using their children into chosing public school. If you had a son who was incredibly talented in football and he had a dream to play it, what would you do? Just about anything to get him in? Enroll him? I think that's what their counting on.

Homeschoolers scare them (polititians, and so on), because they are out of their control and actually being taught to think for themselves. So they just have to find ways to bring them back tot he school, and extracurricular activities is just one way their doing it.

    Poppycock.

    Hogwash.

Home schooling parents STILL pay school taxes - how outrageous is this :( !! Reading this kind of stuff, my heart goes out to all the homeschoolers out there for standing their ground and teaching their children. You guys/gals are awesome  !

Ya, we ran into that here too.. i think it's a load of CRAP.. My 15 year old is in school only because he excells in sports and was too old to play in the city leagues.. We pay taxes just like the rest of the parents, our kids should be allowed to play sports without being a full time student..

Remember the incident with my kids getting kicked out of the football game last year because they were not enrolled in school and we (the parents) weren't there to supervise?? Never mind that even elementary age kids were there without their parents but were supervised by a teacher. My kids weren't allowed to sit in the teacher supervised section WHERE THEIR FRIENDS WERE because they weren't a student and couldn't sit alone so were told by the Jr High principal to leave.. We threw the biggest fit and were appologized to by the superintendent.. Descrimination is what this is.. It's NOT right.. They should be allowed to play sports.. They should be allowed to go to a game to watch their friends play without being harrassed too...

I guess we are blessed in my town, though I know one friend who did put her son in part time school so he could play sports,: we have leagues up to 18 yr olds.

Springfield, MO had a simple solution: Homeschoolers formed their own competitive leagues.

AR just passed its version of the Tim Tebow law. I won't have anything to do with it because it adds extra oversight to the homeschoolers involved in PS sports (they have to prove academic progress; similar idea to PS athletes being required to keep their grades up).

I'm fine with it, to be quite honest. My kids were (are) permitted to play, I think, but it would have to be at a specific school, and I honestly wouldn't want them playing for that school.

My friend's daughter went to a public alternative school that didn't have sports. She was permitted to play with her neighborhood school, and did. IT WAS A DISASTER!!! The other girls really resented having her on the team. She wasn't a part of their school, and they gave her all kinds of grief.

We CHOOSE to not go to school there. I don't personally feel we can pick and choose what we want and don't want to do.

    Good points Jackie!
We are pleased with the community sports here in my town, it has a large amount of Home schoolers but I could never seem to get people to sign up to do PE with us. I planned to get us connected with other private schools to do so, but since i had not enough kids to make a team it kind of forced me to put ds in the private school at my church. He thrives there and there are other kids who home school and join in there now.
As of now its just PE. But ds, dh and I are discussing the possiblity of him going full time next year. but that is another thread all together!

I know of a family who is dealing with this issue right now. Their son is very talented in sports and would love to play professionally when he is older. Homeschoolers are not allowed to play for the ps teams. There are some hs competitive sports in the area but not the one he is really into. They are really praying and researching to figure out what to do for their son but it does put them in a hard spot.
