I LOVE 1800 House. It made me want to be British so our family could be on it. I'll never forget when the family discovered that fish and chips was a period food. It was like the angels in Heaven were singing again. lol. And watching them try to make Mac n' Cheese was a riot.

If I could be on any reality show ever it would be the other PBS one. I think it was called Frontier Life or something like that. I liked it a little better than 1800 House sine there were several families all trying to build a mini-town together. If I had to live in such a drastically different world I'd rather have others there to help and struggle with me, you know?

I would love to do a period reality show that revolves around life in the 1930's depression era. Those people fascinate me, the toughness, the suffering, the ingenuity... the faith..
    LOVE it!

I love 1800 House and all those other "house" shows, too! And I'm a Wife Swap and Supernanny junkie...I confess! :D

Back to Wife Swap: did anyone else notice the "Sparkle" girl's handwriting on her essay? DH actually paused the DVR on that screen so we could look at it more closely. It looked about like our 4th grader's handwriting. Then she had trouble sounding out the word "crutches"??

She needed to spend less time on pageants and more time studying. I liked the kids in the other family. They were cute and the oldest one seemed very together for her age. I felt that they shed a positive light on homeschooling...even though the whole "feminist indoctrination" thing was a little over the top.

Of course that's what makes these shows entertaining...it's ALL over the top!

I saw her having difficulty reading and felt for her. The parents have pounded it into the girl's head that if you are pretty you will go further in life and others will do things for you. The parents should be teaching her how to be self-sufficient.

I think that's the part of the show that bothered me the most... more than the overt spoiling, and letting her get away with being rude to those "lower" than them. To see them really holding back her education made me angry. In her mother's manual, she said that she expects her daughter to marry a man who can take care of her and continue to give her the lifestyle she's accustomed to... but what happens if that doesn't happen? What if she grows up, finds some maturity and independence and falls in love with a man who can't support that lifestyle? What if she finds herself having to work for a living (like 99% of the world)? She could barely fill out a work application, I'm sure. Sad.

Oh, I KNOW...that's what I meant: I felt so sorry for her! And angry with those parents! How do you expect a kid to make it all the way through high school without encouraging them to do their best academically? It's so irresponsible to do that to that poor girl. It made me wonder if she has some type of learning disability that she covers up with her looks?

And the way that dad reacted to her cooking that pasta meal for them. I was livid! Even DH was like, "He did NOT just react that way to his own daughter, did he??"

I thought the way the father reacted about the meal she prepared was disgusting also. I can see the mannerisms the girl gets from her arrogant parents. The way the girl treated the waitress was terrible also. I have always taught my kids to always, always, say please and thank you to the waiter/tress as they are human and they also deserve to be treated with respect.

I had also thought that perhaps there were some learning issues.

Edited to say: When I was a teen I took cooking class and would make food at home for extra credit. I have to say that I was not a good cook but my dad always was kind to me when I nearly poisoned the family with one of my experienments. My dad always encouraged me even when I served us food that wasn't quite edible.
