Hooked on Phonics

Anyone use HOP? My MIL found the whole set at a yard sale for $4.00 (yep $4) and got it for us for our homeschooling (the first real step she's taken to encourage hs). All the books, tapes, flashcards, etc. are included.

Would love to hear your thoughts after using it.

 

I have it and used it now for about 5 years off and on and I loved it. I think it helped my oldest come along ways. They love it they are playing a game and learning at the same time. They are having so much they don't know they are learning. It's a fun game to play with them and learn with them. I have loved it and enjoyed it.

Carol, get out!!!! You got the NEW HOP, the one with the little books and whatnot, for $4??

I got it a few weeks ago- not for $4- and it is cute but boring. My 4 yr old likes to add the stickers to the poster as she reads each book. I wish the illustrations were alittle more professional looking and I wish the books were the same. More importantly, I wish they had found a way to do away with those loooong pages of review. I used the old set with my son years ago and all those review pages made it tedious. It still is! Overall, I guess it gets the job done. Kris, do your girls ever grouse about the long review pages?

 

I have the old one. Vicki loved the music. That is how she learned the sounds of letters and she done great with it.

 

Becky I have the old and new one. I don't care for the new one to much yes the girls do get grouse out with long review pages they prefer the old one over the new one.

 

1st tape

I have lost the white first tape that comes with the old HOP. Can you order them?

 

Kris I think both versions have those long review pages. The only real change in the program I see Is they created these little books to get the child to use the words and they included sight words. I've been meaning to get Jeannie to use a highlighter to mark books we read when she sees a HOP word but dummy here keeps forgetting! :twisted:

 

Becky: I am sorry you are right I looked and they both do have the long reports but I do like the new one better that's my choice. :lol: Yea we marked the books as we read them thats fun but they do forget from time to time. :lol:
