Has anyone bought the Joann Fabrics flannel that they always have on Black Friday for 75% off + 25% off total purchase? Is it thin and pilly?

    Thanks!

there's different qualities available. I have bought it about 3 BFs in a row and been pretty happy with what I bought. NOT thin or pilly at all....been great. I mainly make night gowns out of it though, but it's no worse then any other flannel. I will say it's not the quality probably that you get from Vermount Country Store. But, it is Joann's regular flannel that they normally carry. So it's not bottom of the barrel but it's not the top of the line, but they don't really carry top of the line period, it's the same flannel that they always have. It's not bad at all....locally I can't find anything any better from chains. You would have to buy from small boutique fabric stores to get any better. On the other hand I went to hancock's last year for BF and I was sorely dissapointed with the flannel they had out for BF and it wasn't nearly as cheap.

I actually keep a tally of all the flannel I will need all year long and wait to buy it at the Joann's bf sale each year....

About now you can go on their site and see most of the flannel they will have out...they will have a few surprise ones out too not on their site but most of it is already on their site (it's their usual stuff with a few fun ones added in).

    Wow, thanks for the info!

I love going out on Black Friday, but so many stores are opening the day before so they have really wreaked the fun of getting up at 3am. lol Our Joann is one place I usually avoid because they only have three registers, but I need the flannel and it seems to be a pretty good price! :D

My only problem now is deciding what colors. I have some baby diaper and other projects in mind, but we don't find out the gender until next month. Going to have to stick with neutrals....

What are you using it for? As a QUILTER, I wouldn't buy it. According to my quilting friends (several), it doesn't hold up over the long haul.

I'm mostly doing baby projects like diapers, assorted baby stuff, etc.... Considering this is probably our last child and I'm not worried about re-sale, I need something that is going to hold up for a little while, but not long term. I ended up giving away all my cloth diapers last time, which I'm regretting now, so I really don't want to put in a huge investment for one child.

so far my nightgowns (nursing) have held up for about 3 years, and I have baby "wipes" I made from it, actually about 7 years ago and still using them today....I think they have held up awesomely.

They will have TONS of neutral baby prints, I would look for the animal and nursery type prints, they have a lot of cute ones. They don't have it this year, but last year they had really cute, baby whale print...

Yeah, I was looking online and saw a bunch of cute prints I want! I especially love the puppy/dog patterns. :D I just wish my kids were a little older so I could have someone hold a place in line while I get fabric cut. teehee

I LOVE LOVE LOVED my cloth wipes, so I will need more of those too. Last time I used old flannel sheets with some fine terry on the reverse side, but it isn't garage sale season here for another 5 months, so I'm stuck.

Do you wait in line outside the store before they open?

No I don't. lol I just go before the sale is over for the flannel, now some of the cuter prints may go fast, but there's so much there's still plenty for every one to get a good amount of cute ones.

I do try to go kind of early though (but even by afternoon there is still some cute ones left). I like maybe around 8 or 9 am.

One thing to do, is get your cutting table number as soon as you go in. The line for check out isn't that bad, it's the waiting for your fabric to be cut that is the bad part. If you can get a friend to go with you though and tag team both lines that helps.

I liked the dog prints too, and like some cowboy looking dog one, and a few other cutey animal ones. that could easily be neutral baby wipes and diapers. I like prints for baby wipes rather then solids-that way if you do get a poo stain or urine stain that you just can't get out, it's not as obvious as with the solids. lol

So did you go this year, MH?

It actually went a LOT smoother than I thought it would. The cutting and check out lines were much shorter than I was expecting. I got there a little while after 6 and all the carts were gone. After I got quite an armload, I went up to the front and waited for someone to check out to get a cart...lol

The fabric was actually nicer than I thought! I'm impressed, and have a good stack to keep me busy sewing all winter. I even got a couple of the dog prints that I saw online. And I couldn't resist buying a couple pink prints.....I guess If we have a boy, he'll have to deal with pink. hehe

The only thing that bummed me out was that the print I picked to pair with my terry for wipes was a nursery print, which wasn't on the sale. I was already using my 50% off coupon for the terry. Oh well, I'll find something else later.

I'm going tomorrow for some Christmas prints. And possibly some other quilting material that's suppose to be $1.99, plus 25% coupon. I also need some cross-stitch material, and possibly some art supplies for Faythe's present (which I will use my 50% off on!)

How did you do, Jackie? I managed to go back Saturday using a kid's toolbox workshop at Home Depot as a cover...hehe. Anyway, I was disappointed with the selection of $1.99 fabric. I did find one pattern I liked, but I was expecting a huge selection like they had for the flannel. I also picked up a couple chunks of fleece at 70% off, but I didn't read the 25% off coupon where it said you can't use it on doorbusters. There's always a catch!

Eh. I got some Christmas prints for 50%, which is a good deal, and I got 50% off of a set of watercolor pencils for Faythe, and 50% off of cross stitch materials. BUT the normal quilting materials at $1.99 were only one name, and they had a VERY limited selection. What I REALLY wanted wasn't that big of a deal. And the cutting line was long; I got my number and THEN shopped! But I want to make two small quilted Christmas hot pads to give to the helpers in my co-op class, and I found pretty Christmas material for those!

We go to Ollies near Buffalo regularly and it often has stationery/cards on special, at good value. Particularly Christmas stuff. We buy it early in one year and save it for the next.
