You gals from abcteach might remember the bomb scare incident at my son's school awhile back. Well, we got an email the other day that someone set a trash filled bathroom can on fire mid-day. Of course, it happened at a bathroom without a camera at the entrance. That's what they said when the bomb threat was found. So, where are all the cameras?
I'm assuming that your son is still in public school (made the assumption when you asked if it was June yet)...What a sick world we live in when you have to have cameras at bathroom entrances (I'm not down playing the incident by any means - I'm suggesting it's sad when we have to go to such measures to protect the general population who choose not to engage in such activites that would endanger others like the incidents that you have described here). Yet another reason why I home school. Last year there was a shooting at a school not far from here and it had to do with a girl breaking up with one boy to go out with another one! No one was physically hurt, but I'm sure they still have emotional scars from it. In September, my oldest son witnessed another child (in his class) threaten to bring a knife to school and hurt someone with it - breaks my heart that these children are that troubled that they would do these things... Brenda, I could load up the screen with other smaller incidents that have occurred. Yes, he's still in p.s., but thankfully we're cutting all ties with the system after graduation.
Becky, I remember you post back on abcteach. This is just so sad. The whole situation is sad; what kids have to go through to get an education in some schools. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Tammy
I personally think that when these things happen police should be brought in for regular, unannounced patrols. They need to get real about those cameras, too. I went to this school myself. In all the years I was there the worst thing that happened was a suicide. No bomb threats, no fires. This used to be a quality school and the kids had common sense. You know, I recently read an article about the prisoner abuse in Iraq, and how some of the acts were in movies like Dumb&Dumber. I seriously believe that a generation of parents tried too hard to be their kid's friends and that's why you have kids setting fires and creating unsafe conditions. No parental limits set.It was at a local lacross game that team members from one team attacked the other team, beating them with fists, sticks, and full body contact. Parents even joined in the beating. It was on our local cable channel, as it happened. It was numbing to watch. Those of us who are trying to raise our kids with integrity are left to fend for ourselves, I guess, and that's why they won't get my little one. It was rude, but I told them as much.
