It is Friday noon here, and my kids have spent the last couple of hours painting pictures. They have been perfectly happy to be creative and messy and loud and different.... and I haven't minded a bit. They have their music on (Christian, movie soundtracks and some Disney stuff). It started out as an assignment to paint a color wheel, and has morphed! :)

I'll serve up some lunch in bit, and then this afternoon they have to crack open a book or two.

What is it like at your house today?

My kids are getting ready to watch a movie. We did regular school lessons this morning, and my sister has a birthday today, so I'll make a nice dinner and the kids (with lots of supervision and help) will clean up...in exchange for free rein in decorating.

We are taking today off. Ems worked on MLK Day so I am giving her the day to do what she wants.

We covered a few subjects this morning, but now my kids are staring out the window at the big sledding hill. They've played on it every day this week, but just can't seem to get enough of it. Well, at least, phy ed is covered for the week!

It is about 40 out there today... I kicked Garrett out to play hours ago. I am sure that they snow will be gone in a day or 2 so he is sleigh riding and snowboarding.

Well, my kids will be doing bookwork late into the evening and/or some tomorrow morning. My husband took today off, and let me sleep in. Which means that no work was accomplished this morning. This is the first sunny, balmy day we've had in a week or two and the kids are having so much fun (and getting so much exercise) outdoors with our neighbor's homeschooled son that I just don't have the heart to make them come inside! We've been cooped up for a week...I want to let them play!

We've all had a cold and felt yucky the last few days so yesterday was a total unschooling day. Today, we did about 3 subjects each (varied depending on the kiddo) and included all of us reading the first half of our next Zoology 2 chapter. We did a notebooking page on diagramming a lobster and crab.

    Now we're reading a bit.

Then the girls have to finish packing for their AWANA TNT girls lockin at church.

We're just finishing up a regular day here. We had a slow morning after a neighbor brought a stray dog over to see if we'd keep it until the owner is found. She has 2 un-spayed female dogs and was afraid to keep him. Now, the kids are dog-walking and dreaming of a name in case we could keep him.

My ds and I went for run. We did a bit of school here this morning. Then we headed over to a local community college for me to put up tutoring flyers. For lunch we went to a Chinese restuarant, then headed home for some piano playing and goofing around for the rest of the day.

Phillip and Faythe were fussing this morning, and I REALLY gave them what-for!!! I told them that if it didn't STOP NOW!!!, they would both be grounded for the weekend, that Faythe would NOT be going to Youth Group on Saturday, Phillip would NOT be going to Sunday School, they would BOTH have to sit with ME during the service, AND with me during the dinner AFTER!!! If they can't get along with one another, then I can only assume they can't get along with others, too!!! THAT put the Fear of Mom into them :D, and they settled down at least until tomorrow.

Right now, they're watching Scooby Doo (cartoon, not movie!) and Rachael is making dinner. And *I* just got out of a whole hour reading in the bathtub with a Lavender scented candle and bubble bath!!!:)

We cleaned some this morning, "repaired" a math assignment from earlier in the week. He had missed 9 out of 25...and NONE of them were concept issues. ALL were silly mistakes. ugh.
He finished writing his paper on his Greek Monsters...and during the process...after a fairly significant meltdown...he said he wanted to write a paper on Greek Mythology and the relationships because just two monsters didn't feel like enough. and!!!! "I really am interested in Greek Mythology."
We also did typing (he did a couple of paragraphs about ancient Greece.)
I finished my statistics homework (took most of a few days) and ran an errand.
My folks are home, yea! They were at my sister's for a month.

We weren't home! Our zoo is free on Fridays during Jan and Feb so when we heard the forecast was for 64 degrees today we decided to make a day of it. Joyce and I picked up my dgds around noon and we didn't leave the zoo until almost 5. I need a good hot soak in the tub but they are spending the night so I doubt I'll get it!

Around noon, Ems and I went to get our hair cut. She had long layers done. The layers really allowed her curls to spring up. I just got a trim.

The lady who cut Em's hair asked why she wasn't in school. I could see Em's face in her mirror looking at me in my mirror (she was sitting in the booth behind me). She told the lady she was homeschooled.

    GOODNESS!!!

The look on the ladies face made me think she bit into a sour lemon. I just rolled my eyes at Ems and
    then winked.

I am really SICK today. I woke up feeling like my throat was swollen shut. I had just gotten over a bit of a cold and thought I was in the clear. I felt so bad this morning. But I babysit so I had to get up at 6:30. I got the baby, feed her a bottle and put her to sleep and I went back to bed until the baby woke me up at 9. I got the kids up then .

Grace did no work today. She colored and played with lots of toys.

Samantha did a logic lesson and a study on an artist and we read some poetry. Then she played with the baby on the floor.

Then I really began to go downhill. I couldn't move off the couch and just wanted to lay there and cry. My daughter is such a wonderful young lady! She took total care of the baby with the exception of changing diapers. She feed her lunch and everything! So I paid her for her work today. I figured I am getting paid and she did all the work so she deserves it.

well, we are kinda sick here. took baby to dr, been sick and no sleep for 3 days, turns out it is ear infection, now im feeling pretty bad and believe she gave me her cold.

so i praying that we feel better by monday. but on a good note, we have done school every weekday since Jan 5th, and are back on our 5 day a week schedule, hadnt missed any days or gotten behind, so i figure, we deserve it right. we deserve the right to feel horrible and just do nothing about school for a day and not feel guilty.

also, we are in 2nd grade, and my dd is supposed to start multiplication in our next lesson, but i made the decision today after reading the other math post to hold off at least a week and work really hard on getting our add and subtraction facts to the 14 family memorized bf we move on. I know abeka is spiral, and they will still review these, but i feel we need just a bit more foundation bf we try to start something totally new like multiplication!

Friday is my favorite day of the week. We meet all day with a co-op and do history and science together. This week I didn't have to teach!! Yeah!! I got to relax while my girls were taught by two of the other moms.

We went to the park to play. SOOOO worth it. Actually my husband kicked me out and washed all the eggs for me that I needed for the market. Since our water froze the machine we wash eggs in this past week - there were a TON to wash (think 120+ per day). But he said the kids had to burn energy and I needed adult conversation. And BOY did I!!

They did get 95% of their work done - we just skipped History and Science and I moved those to Monday so no big deal.

My son had "Blue Knights" last night which is like a boys group in the Catholic church - but it's all homeschool boys which rocks and he definitely needed that. I guess they are making wooden swords next time so he is excited.

    Friday is the weekend here.

We were expecting a big storm and flash flooding- so stayed in, and worked around the villa ( doing some much needed repairs)

We start back with our schooling on Sunday, after having a few months off.
